I see two possible scenarios. #1 we hit a Tiller-like hire that pulls rabbits out of the hat and we turn around in <3 seasons. #2 we don't get lucky and wander in mediocrity, which is admittedly a big step up from where we are now, for eternity. I'm leaning towards the latter.

I don't see a quick fix. Best we could reasonably hope for is progress like IU has had, which is approximately one more win each year for 6-7 years.

there is no guarantee that the haze is going anywhere. if he was't replaced after last season, what would it take?

if he is replaced why should the next guy make 2 mil per year if the results bar has been set so low. just about any respectable high school coach could do better than DH2

They moved up finding burkes replacement to put he heat on hazell. Barring a miracle, he gone

As for pay, we will pay the next guy more. Just the way it is

Tiller inherited talented players. Never forget that Colletto absolutely was 100x the recruiter Hazell is.

His system was not good for Purdue. Tiller took the talent, put them in positions better suited to them and Billy Dicken ripped 9 wins!

Next coach absolutely has to start over from scratch. Possibly even letting some of the kids move on and having a really bad first few seasons while he fixes the job the worst recruiter ever has left Purdue with. Purdue doesn't even have top level MAC talent atm.

Because we are Purdue and not a school like ND or Alabama who is going to land a big name coach and immediately land top recruits, I think we are better off Hazell having some success this year and sticking around for a while (like what happened to VT when Beamer struggled his first 4 or 5 years). Otherwise we will be replacing him with another MAC type of coach that won't be any more of a name to recruits and who will need several years of trying to build a program.

I think Hazell, Malone and Coach Freeman are guys that should be able to recruit if they show some proof of recent success. If Malone's offense lights up the scoreboard this season and we win 6 or 7 games, I think the feel of the program would be totally different as well as selling to recruits should be slightly easier. And I think that would be better than cleaning house and starting over...because we aren't a school that will land a big name coach.

Obviously, if we only win 4 games with this schedule, a house cleaning will be needed. But if that happens...the only way I see things turning around quickly is if a big name coach who can recruit 4 star talent is hired....which most likely isn't going to happen.

I can agree with what u posted about were not ND or Bama but we don`t have to keep Hazell after this year. Hazell hes a lot like my brother in-law he can`t walk thru the yard without stepping in shit. Malone if his offense looks good then hell give him a shot he has plenty of experience coaching collage and the pro`s.

6 wins DH2 is a keeper, but 4 wins clearly means clean house? Seems like a very fine line.

I imagine letting DH2 go, and if cannot find an adequate replacement right away, agree why not try to keep Malone as interim coach or coach if he truly works out.

any decent coach would be showing results in year 3, maybe sooner depending on how well they recruit and what talent is left at QB. But your junior class ought to be making enough noise to get the fans interested. If that's not the answer, then tacos!!!

when I see a bad team (Purdue) making all the mistakes bad teams make (penalties, turnovers, mental errors), consistently, then that's on the coach and that tells me the coach isn't getting through to these guys on the basics. That's when I've seen enough and say "this guy isn't getting the little things done, how's he supposed to get us to the Rose Bowl?"

Until a successful football program becomes a priority for the school administration, which I don't believe it is, I doubt any coach will be able to turn this program around!
