how many years till we go bowling again

At least three,but probably more.Can you believe that Duke hasn't won a Bowl Game until today since 1961?That was during the waning days of the Eisenhower administration.And we think its been forever since Purdue has won a Bowl game.Wow.
Making a bowl game isn't that big of deal. IU went 2-6 in the B1G, Nebraska went 5-7 overall, and they both made bowl games.
I don't see how we slow down any decent passing attack. We have no pass rush, and what I believe could be a historically bad secondary. I would love to be wrong about this though.
Do you really think our sorry coach can get this team to win more than 2 games?
10 years AFTER Burke and Hazell are gone....unless the new administration decides to cheat....even then, 7 years....that's how far Purdue Football has fallen....it sux that bad....
There was enough talent on the team to go to one this year. Once hazell is canned, and if they make the right hire, they should be back.
Too many variables. As long as AD is here, he is married to the coach, so it won't happen. I think the right coach and it could/should be by year 2. Right coach WITH an AD and President and Board we could be elite. Conspiracy theory- the higher ups like going 6-30 so we will accept 6-6 and there will never have to be a real commitment.
It certainly would be for Purdue at this point! Having seen things from both sides now, making a bowl game (however non-descript the bowl might be) beats the absolute hell out of not doing so.... I miss seeing Purdue playing over the holidays.
I hear you. Being even .500 isn't nothing special. It would be a great improvement though.

That makes sense, if true. Our defense will be awful, even if they hired Belichick as DC, because we will not be able to stop anyone from just throwing at will. We had 2 B1G caliber DBs last season on the whole roster, and they are gone now.
Not to be too picky, but the Duke bowl victory of 1961 would have been the first year of JFK (who was elected in 1960). However it WAS a LONG time ago!

i wouldnt be surprised if he has offers to coach where the head man isnt a year away from being shown the door.
Wonder if the Non Revenue Sports King considered that possibility when he went the lame duck route... Doubt it.
Don't look at the tape of our last bowl appearance. I'd rather not go than to endure the embarrassment of that kind of game again. But I don't think we have too much to worry about. While our program is going backwards, the rest of the B1G is making moves with their programs to improve. I'm fully expecting that we will be the uncontested bottom dweller of the conference next year.
Nephew is a freshman. I fully expect that his parents will never have to pay for a bowl trip, even if he goes to grad school. Hazell has just destroyed the talent base outside of qb & rb...
But this is Purdue, where progress isn't measured on the field...it's measured, um, somewhere else.

I look at that schedule and see many games we have sufficient talent to compete in and potentially win. Certainly enough where we could piece together 6 wins. The talent just has to be well coached.
This mindset is the same one that excused Hazell's first several years. It doesn't take a major rebuild to simply become bowl eligible. Winning the conference? Different story. But a good coach wouldn't need 3 years to get us to a bowl. He'd probably do it in his first year or maybe his second year at worst.
