How many Boiler fans know about this?

I'm not sure how much common knowledge this is or isn't among the Purdue faithful, I know I didn't know about it until recently the last few years. But what percentage of fans would you estimate know that Aaron Rodgers sent his game film to Purdue and one of the coaches sent him a letter back basically telling him to f off, but in much nicer words? With moves and decisions like that, it's no wonder the program took such a nose dive before the Brohm Squad came to town...

Well, not one other D1 school offered him a scholarship either so your reasoning isn't exactly spot on. Also, I believe that he wanted to play at Florida State so it's not like he begged to come to Purdue and the staff denied him his dream school.

Pretty sure that was during Tiller era. He had to go to Butte Juco and then went to Berkeley. Though I think it was his Juco tape he might of sent.

P.S. I'm a 49ers fan, so my team chose Alex Smith over him. Rumor is his ego was a big part of their reasoning.

I prefer wins over everything else when it comes to QBs. I'm a Packers fan, so I am kinda biased towards Rodgers. I'm also a Colts fan unfortunately, on that note, Andrew Luck is dead to me!!!

The story I had heard from sources that were in Athletic Dept at that time was;

Greg Olson (QB Coach) knew Rogers Butte CC HC and there was mutual interest . However, no official offer was made because Tiller had promised Kyle Orton (and/or Kyles father) that PU would not offer any other QB's that recruiting cycle?

Cant confirm story as fact-just internal gossip from inside AD

It was Joe Tiller that wrote the letter. Purdue had Kyle Orton committed. That fit Joe’s system much better. Purdue already had Brandon Hance on the team which is the frame size you are talking about.
Think of it this way, IF Aaron Rodgers came to Purdue and was buried behind Orton, would he ever have turned Pro?

I heard such a while back and have no idea where I heard it...

So true. Sometimes being in the right place at the right time is more important than talent alone.

Did you know Michael Jordan also got cut from his high school basketball team?
I'm thinking this is an effort to keep the Charlie Spegal discussion alive?
A bit of clarification on that whole Jordan being cut story as I read many years ago when he was still playing... As a freshman, he got cut from the varsity team, not from the JV/freshman team... he had to play JV for a year. Not many freshman are ready physically to play varsity ball in HS.

While watching the NCAA tourney last year, the story was told about how CE got cut from the varsity team his freshman year too. He wanted to quit, but his mom wouldn’t let him. Playing Freshman/JV for a season turned out ok for him too.
