Ok, here are my football thoughts….
What a shocker!!! So much for the Big Ten, ACC and PAC 12 alliance….it is eat or be eaten and it is clear we are going to two super conferences with probably 24 teams each with a 16 team playoff. The big ten and SEC are going to dictate terms here and i think that they will negotiate 6 spots for each conference out of the 16 spots, leaving 4 at large spots. If they take anything less, they would be fools since all the other schools will have no power in the process and the NCAA will be ignored by the 2 conferences.
So the big ten is now at 16 teams; who are the first picks we would want and who do I think we will eventually end up with??
Ideal schools:
Florida-AAU member, recruiting
Georgia- state flagship program and fertile recruiting grounds
Texas or Texas A&M- recruiting, Texas market
North Carolina- big TV market, state flagship
Virginia- big TV market, state flagship school
Norte Dame- no special terms for them
Clemson- big time program
Florida StAte- same as Florida
Who I think we end up with:
North Carolina
Virginia
Miami
Florida State
Notre Dame
Washington
Oregon
Georgia tech - culture fit is why
No way any of the existing or planned SEC schools come to the big ten….I think Texas would’ve come to big ten over SEC if we would’ve offered prior to them signing up with SEC, we are a better culture and academic fit then then SEC.
Surprised that only Florida, Texas A&M , Texas, Missouri and Vanderbilt are AAU member schools in SEC…all existing big ten schools except for Nebraska. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by this.
Big ten divides into 4 divisions with each division winner making playoffs, the four second place teams face each other in a playoff qualifier to get the automatic 6 qualifiers from conference. Remaining big ten teams are eligible for four at large bids, so big ten nor SEC limited to 6 teams.
I would also go to a 11 game conference schedule to maximize revenue with your 5 in division games and 2 each from other 3 divisions. Will give each team opportunity to play each big ten team within 3 years.
This may be selfish of big ten, but this is all about Benjamins!
