We know they are loaded with talent , all that said, it's all gotta fall in place , especially March , so what is your "hope or expectation " for the team ?

If we stay healthy?....top 4 seed in big ten tournament, top 2 seed and at least an elite 8 would be the expectation....but this year seems different so I'll say final four will be our result if we get no injuries and a reasonable amount of luck...

Good regular season. Might lose a few we won last year just because we won’t surprise anyone. We will have a target on our backs now. The occasional bad match-up or bad game can be absorbed in an excellent overall regular season.

The tourney is a crap shoot. Yes, talent is required but so is buckets of good luck. Any of the top four seeds (16 top teams) probably has enough talent to win it all. They just need to be hot at the right times and be lucky too.

Win it all baby.
I'd bet on Final 4 but in reality we'll be hard pressed to see a better Boiler group again.
I'd gladly trade Big 10 title for an NCAA one.
The time is here boys.
You don't think the extra players we added will give us a better team this year?

I think the added players only enhance an already extremely good team. Plus we got another year of experience for a very young team. Reports from the scrimmage and EU trip seem to indicate that TKR has taken a huge step forward, and that the new guys/bench guys will contribute more than the ones we had last year. We will see what painter does with Morton specifically and Gillis to a lesser extent, as they both seem to have younger guys that have passed them.

Waddell playing lights out is the biggest surprise imo. I say FF as my projection, and hope. Anything less would be a disappointment with the team we have this year.

Dont' think we'll see a better group than THIS one. So need to take advantage of that and Win it All baby!
I would bet money they make FF, but think that should be the floor.
I also agree but trying to set expectations to second weekend. Once we get there we need some luck (like a lot of other teams have needed) to get to the following weekend. Only 3 months(ish) to go until the season starts…

The team will go as far as it goes. Why does anyone spend so so much time attempting to pretend like they know the future, when no one does?
That goes both ways for the ones who say " we will choke" again and the ones that think we will automatically go far. Or even the ones who think they know who the starters will be for the upcoming season. We can't possibly know any of that. Waddell already has some rethinking their line ups.

Who knows, on paper better than last year, anything less than a Final 4 is a disappointment in my opinion. Having said that, basketball in March is weird, 1 bad game and you’re out!

Do they have the players who are capable of winning it all...yes? One player no one mentioned improving this year is Edey. Based on his track recored, he will. Along with the soph guards and newcomers it could be a great season. On the other hand the excitement over Waddell, should be tempered a bit. It takes a while to come back from that injury and his performance shows he has come a long way. Thinking he may start or garner many minutes is yet to be proved. Most of the competition he faced in Europe was well below Power 5 division one. My guess, elite 8.

I suppose a loss to a highly ranked team in the Elite 8 in a close game could be palatable. But I think FF or it will be another disappointment for most.

How far will we go? Great debate over that. Everyone should realize that there are a dozen or more teams with better talent than Purdue on paper. Seems like a crap shoot to me. I expect to get to the sweet sixtten, but beyond that is really questionable.

Don’t forget the last time a 1 lost to a 16 - UVA won it all the following year
Be interesting if we played that final 10 seconds , 10 times, how often they make that shot/pass , my guess 1 in 10...., to me it's about athleticism and a prayer, we have a little more of that this year, as for the prayer, I'm not sure that Keady didn't use them all 🤣

Predictions are always fun, so I say 2024 Sweet 16 and 2025 Final Four.
Just gut predictions plain and simple.

I believe it was 2 years ago, that I read after someone saying this would be the year that they thought Purdue could do something really big. I don't remember why last season was left out, but it might have been we were losing so much from the 2021-22 class and didn't expect to be that great last season. Anyway, i do believe we have some key elements missing from last season if players stay healthy.

do you really think we are saying that they WILL do what we say?
That we honestly think we can prognosticate?
Its our OPINIONS on a sports forum....

There are several on this forum that get completely upset if you talk about a certain line up starting or telling them one of the starters from last year is not set in stone. They do think what they say is law. I am ALWAYS ok talking about opinions. You can read my other posts to see that. I am talking from the angle some think they know what Painter will do ahead of the season or what our team will definitely do.

I get it. I'm sure some of it is the same as I do. It's my opinion but I do believe in the power of positive thinking so I will phrase it as "I expect them too". I certainly DON"T expect, but you gotta believe sometimes. ;)

A friend of mine said Purdue was going to the Elite 8 before the
2019 Tournament started, and Purdue did. It's possible to hear the
future ahead of time but like you said most of the time no one knows.
Human nature I guess.
If you're a top 10 team all year I don't know how you wouldn't expect to make the final 8.
Sure upsets happen every year, but you've spent 30 games determining if you are one of the best 10 or not. All you have to do at that point is play your normal game........ easier said than done....
We may lose a couple we shouldn't (hopefully for the sake of developing options come tourney time) but if we're top 5 all year...... ;)

So without Edey we go and with him we don't, interesting? why that?
Just a gut feeling really. If I had to explain it logically, we weren't missing
a DeAndre Hunter type player when we lost to FDU last year like Virginia was
when they lost to UMBC in 2018. And as dominating as Edey is, the floor is
going to open up a lot more for Purdue and all its personnel (particularly in
March Madness) after Edey is gone.

Purdue returning to the Final Four in 2025 is my gut prediction. We may even
win it all with Catching still coming and Harris hopefully committing this fall,
plus all the other players we will still have.

Morton may be a great defender, and Gillis (too small for the 4) may play hard,
but Purdue will be a team better built for a deep March run in 2025.

Not to be rude, but Purdue wasn't ranked in the top 10 during the 2018-2019
season according to college basketball sports reference. We were a 3 seed
which would mean we were expected to fall to the 2 seed in a Sweet 16 game.

I was trying to show another poster that its possible to hear or predict the
future sometimes. When do you think Purdue will return to the Final Four?

I think it will be 2025. I know alot of people think we can pull a Virginia in
2024 and win it all, but we were not missing a DeAndre Hunter type player
when we lost to FDU last year like Virginia did to UMBC in 2018.

I think we fall in the 2024 Sweet 16, but I hope I'm wrong.
You said last year that this year would be it. Just sayin

Only thing I differ in opinion with you is that Morton is a great defender…I haven’t seen anything that shows that he is. Still hoping he doesn’t see significant minutes this year unless somehow he has improved his shooting and overall game

I think we repeat as B1G champs and see at least the elite 8 in the tourney. This team is deep enough with talent to win it all but the tourney is a crap shoot. Can they play well for six games in a row or do they tighten up and lose early like last season? That is yet to be seen but we have the talent to be a contender.

Well Edey truly is the dominator in the past, I think comes down to athletic players after who change the pace of the game , can drive and shoot the 3 consistently in March especially ( which we have not) Colvin Heide and Waddell can perhaps change March and are maturing at the right time, if the Big doesn't wear them out.. otherwise 2025

It comes down to Painter and his willingness/ability to play the right players. If you thought his bunghole was tight vs FDU, just wait until the tourney this year. Every talking head will be calling for another colossal upset. He's earned the choker title, now he has to lose it.
