How exactly is this Painter's fault.

Ark hit huge shots and all the issues Purdue had during the season were in that game. Bottom line is you heart is as big as your best player. AJ has a Small heart. I'm sorry that's real. If Cline hits both his FT's in 1st OT Purdue likely wins.

The team played lackadaisical all year at points. Ark was playing for history. Derek Fischer was there... They were playing for history. The players on Purdue were playing like it was a regular season game. Oh look we are up by 14. Turning the ball over... That was a good team and they jacked it up a notch and Purdue didn't.

Painter had success with Moore, Hummel and JJ Johnson. Purdue blew leads all year. Struggled against the press. Painter needs to get better athletes at the guard position.

I am looking forward to next year seeing some new PG's. AJ was not locked in.

Johnny Hill has no clue how kick the ball out. Just awful to not understand that at the end of a game like that.

The game was simple: AJ was MIA for most of it. Half the game he spent around the 3 point line instead of battling for position. Not about him even shooting it - but when you shoot the ball and AJ is out by the 3 point line, there's no one there to rebound.

We out rebounded them by 7. That's the game.

Not to even mention Vince's turnovers, Swanigan's turnovers, etc.

I said going into this game, it's about 2 things: rebounding and turnovers. We did crappy with both.

Didn't call a TO with 5 sec left in regulation. Didn't call TO until lead was down to 3. Let PJ turnover the ball constantly. Played AJ, Ray, Vince, and Dakota 15 minutes straight at the end of the game which gassed them. Didn't draw plays up for AJ when he called TOs. The list goes on and on guy is a complete idiot. A YMCA coach could of won that game.

Shhhh logic isn't allowed here. Only PMSing ledge jumping by wannabe experts.

He's the damn coach. Up 13. 3 minutes to play. You figure out how to win.

This is not excusable. The buck stops with Painter. That is not debatable.

Then, *that's* how it is on Painter. It's his job to recruit the players as well as coach them.

This was a monumental opportunity blown. We were in a relatively weak section of a bracket with our most talented team in 5 years and ... a "Purdue result". :D Really, it's just comical at this point. It's clear we aren't "all in" in athletics. I wish we would drop athletics or make a real effort. It can't just be bad luck. Not after this many years and this many failures.

Those issues were with the team all year. Fans were hoping late in season they corrected them for good.

Which carsen edwards will fix. He will start from day one.

if you can't figure out how to not blow double digit leads in the last 5 min. of a game, you might not know how to coach. Has happened all year.

Painter either openly allows his guys to break away from the game plan or he poorly game plans. And I'm of the opinion that he intensely game plans but it seems like his players know that he gives them enough rope to either be heros or to hang themselves with. It's just too loose.

Up 13 with 4 min to go and Dakota passes up a wide open alley oop to AJ in transition to kill clock. That's when everything turned around. Most disappointing loss since 1994 for me. PG is an issue. Let's hope CE helps fix that.

The notion that we need a different player or 2 to win this game is crazy.

We only out rebounded a team we towered over by 7! AJ was out hanging out by the 3 point line half the game instead of battling for position. So when someone else takes a shot cause AJ isn't in position to do so (and that's fine because he was being covered heavily), he is NO WHERE in position to rebound. AJ just being AJ. In his own world.

Well what is it going to be? People were up in arms that he was too controlling of Bryson Scott, etc...

I think Carsen Edwards is going to be good. BTW Purdue got what they kinda deserved as DO YOU REALLY WANNA TRUST AJ HAMMONS? Did you not in hindsight see this coming? What the hell was Haas doing with that forearm?

Johnny Hill was in the game for his speed. But he panicks. I think youth played a huge part. That Ark was hitting HUGE I mean HUGE shots

I can't count the number of times I've heard that - "They were just hitting crazy shots!" I'm guessing that has been said about Purdue very few times over the years.

The proof is in the pudding... I think a 30+ year sample has shown that we're just not as good as I thought we were (or should be). It's not any one thing, it's just a confluence of multiple factors, just like anything else in sports (or life).

Either Painter is a bad coach or Arkansas has a terrific coach! Either way painter got outcoached plain and simple. He just embarrassed the B1G!

I'm tired of we are unlucky copout. Painter nor Keady could win big in The Tourney consistently.

The fact that we're talking about a guy who's not even on the team yet, says it all.

I didn't state that we were a player or two away. Someone asked "How is this Painter's fault?" and then began talking about player limitations - which is, indeed, humorous considering we're talking about Arkansas-Little Rock.

You're right, every time Purdue loses it's the players' fault.

I don't think that's true at all.

However, when you're playing a team you are simply better than, it's probably not coming down to coaching. At some point, players have to play. The Little Rock seniors came to play and made plays, our seniors did not. Raphael and AJ both look scared out there for a lot of the game. AJ was playing in his own little world the entire first half. This game is about repetition - these guys have seen this before, yet did not perform. You can sit there and say "well Painter recruited them" - well an All-Big Ten 7' center bigger than everyone on the court shouldn't be 5-10 and hanging out at the three point line half the game.

We know what you get with AJ. It's a love/hate type of thing. Some games you love him, some games he drives you insane. Today was an "insane" game and reminded me earlier in non-conference play when he'd have 4 points against a crappy, small team. And I understand he was getting hounded, but he also wasn't battling. Today, he didn't have the fight.

LRArk made some unbelievable shots that were well defended. We had no offense the last 4 minutes and were clueless. Not trying to defend AJ, but no way can he play that many minutes and be effective. No guy that size can. He played 31 min against Mich and was dead at the MSU game. Honestly, I don't know what the answer is. I do know next winter I am going to FL for the season because I'm not renewing my contract for premium seats. The thing I hate as much as losing the game is making Seth Davis look good and the tournament committee look like they were right.

What coach would have put Hill in the game and then put the ball in his hands?

No fight at all in this game! AJ should of been takin out of the game he was not putting any effort into anything.... Its like they didnt much care its sad.....

I mean, the NCAA Tournament is the NCAA Tournament. Yale isn't better than Baylor and Yale's coach isn't better than Baylor's coach. But Yale's players came to play and executed. Rebounding is heavily an effort stat. We only out rebounded them by 7! There's no way that's in Painter's "gameplan" and "in-game coaching". LR simply played with more effort. Can only do so much about that on the sideline.

I'm not going to argue that AJ was good tonight, but Jesus we had a double digit lead with 3 minutes to go. This loss isn't on him. All we had to do was make 1 or two shots (which we were wide open) and this game is over.

Or here's a thought, how about fouling in regulation rather than letting them take a 3??? The whole time he is dribbling up the floor I'm hollering "foul him, foul him" (the Wings Ect crowd will verify). That is on the coach. So neither of those problems are on AJ. You can bitch and moan about him all you want, but he is not the reason we lost this game.

2 years in a row choking epically in the tournament. Painter is what he is. Get used to it because he'll be here the next 30 years.

Not sure losing an 8/9 game is "choking". It's kinda funny cause Purdue's lost in the first round twice in the last over 10 years. Not exactly that consistent of a theme.

Chocking as in we had the game and we gave it away. Cinci and this game are prime examples of Painter Tourney team snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. How many years does painter get to almost win. He is paid to win in the tourney. He got paid big to get us to the final 4. He hasn't done either since his big paycheck!

How it is Painter's fault:

He didn't recognize that the team stopped attacking after the under 4 timeout until it was a six point game.

He didn't call timeout immediately after the made three to tie it just under six seconds. (Yes, he can do that as it is not a live ball situation).

He didn't call timeout during FTs to direct the team to foul or not, to call timeout if it's tied, etc. they pretty clearly had no clue what to do in the final five seconds, and Purdue had two timeouts sitting unused. That's inexcusable.

He didn't recognize that LR wasn't guarding Hill at all and make an adjustment until overtime.

What I just witnessed was the most severe case of end game brain lock I can recall in a long time. Painter was totally out coached in the final five minutes and two over times by a first year coach.
