Holy man, does Purdue travel well or something??

I'm living in Milwaukee and yesterday morning I ordered tickets for the 3rd session here for $160 each. I was worried ticket prices would drop with Minnesota losing, but today tickets 8 rows back from mine are being listed at $415 each.

That's nuts. Is it because of Purdue?

Might be but maybe more from Iowa state given the path over to Milwaukee.

Bunches of ISU fans out there. Hope Purdue shows up. I have to work or I would drive up myself.

I heard some talking head say this is the toughest ticket to get. Combo of isu, Purdue, and butler
There were a lot of street brokers around Bradley and I they said the tix were a lot less than on line prices. They were happy because the on line was driving up their asking prices. I would think you could get upper level at face or slightly over if you wait until after the first game.

I had planned on driving out there, but with such few tickets listed by online ticket brokers I was getting worried.

I was at the game yesterday and there was tons of tickets for sale on the street! They also said they were selling them cheaper than online. With Purdue being the second game I would drive up and scalp around the stadium during the first session, if you're not to picky on seat location. You avoid the $100 "processing" fee from online also that way!

This game will be practically an Iowa State home game. There were a ton more Iowa State fans there last night than ours. Our fans do not "take over" anything, especially when it remotely involves an effort.

As others mentioned, the quantity of tickets online is low - there will be a lot more in person/lower prices.

Do you think some will still be available if someone would drive up there in the afternoon and just buy them at the ticket office or would negotiating with scalpers be the best bet?

Iowa State has, I believe, 3 players who hail from Milwaukee on their roster.

Yep, Deonte Burton, Donovan Jackson, and Darrell Bowie are all from Milwaukee. Matt Thomas is from Onalaska, Wisconsin.

This will be similar to when Purdue played Washington (they had a starting freshman guard named Isaiah Thomas) in Portland, Oregon in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Yes, but that is not why it's going to be practically a home game for them. The fact of the matter is Iowa State fans travel well, ours do not.

Additionally, our fans that are actually there tend to not be very supportive - which was evident behind our own bench, who just sat there most of the game.

A couple comments I saw: "Worst fans in Milwaukee: Purdue. Low turnout and were getting out cheered by Vermont fans."

"Hope a lot more Purdue fans will be here in Milwaukee for the next game. Iowa State has a huge crowd."

"Purdue: Get better fans. It's 3.5 hours here. There's so many more Cyclone fans."

Interesting "fact".
Great quotes. Those comments are killer.

No disagreement from me. Was surprised at the low Purdue turnout Thursday night.

Hopefully Butler and Purdue fans will root for each other, which could make it a pretty good Purdue crowd. Purdue also has a large alumni fan base in Chicago.

While this is by no means an excuse, we as fans rarely give Purdue a favorable environment away from Mackey. It's amazing to me how Purdue fans can be so supportive at home throughout a season, then they go on the road and they disappear.

In Indianapolis, Purdue has fans at the Crossroads Classic, but not as many as one would expect a major state school 60 miles away. Look at our record.

In the Big Ten Tournament, it's typically in Chicago/Indy - 2 and 1 hours away from campus, respectively. Usually not a dominant crowd there. I went to the tournament this year in DC and Purdue had nowhere close to the most number of fans - as the #1 seed. It's not like Purdue's any further away really than Michigan, who had more fans than us.

In the NCAA Tournament, we used to fill up arenas - I remember taking over Rupp Arena. Sometimes you just aren't in friendly areas - playing in Spokane, that's tough to create a home court advantage. But Milwaukee is 3.5 hours away from campus, an hour from Chicago which has a massive number of alumni. There's no reason Iowa State fans should dominate our fans. Can it be 60/40, sure. But this game will probably be in the 70-80/30-20 range.

A home court advantage surely does not guarantee a win, but it also sure as hell doesn't hurt. We have not typically done that though.

Any time you are relying on another school's fans to root for you is not a good sign.

Yes, Purdue does have a large alumni base within an hour of Milwaukee. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised by the turnout, but I'm not counting on it (and from the lack of people on here saying they're going, I'd guess not).

That being said, I also said the Purdue crowd that was there Thursday was pretty dull. 2,000 fans that are into it can be better than 4,000 fans that are fairly meh. Granted, it was the first round, but they need to get into the damn game today.

I was at the Purdue/Washington game in Portland - it was a strong majority Washington fans obviously. Purdue had a decent showing for the travel - I'd maybe give us 1,000 fans there max, but we were strongly outnumbered. But the fans that were there were INTO it Also, think back to the Alamo Bowl vs. K-State - Purdue fans were strongly outnumbered, but I've never seen Purdue fans at a football game that into it. Fast-forward to the Rose Bowl where Purdue fans around me were yelling at others to sit down on 3rd downs.

I'll even take quality over quantity - there needs to be energy.

Absolute fallacy. I go to the BTT every year in Indy and the turnout is always substantial. Nobody has a "dominant crowd" there. It's a 14 team tournament. Use some common sense. Don't let the fact that our fans don't dress in garish red or green or orange fool you. This is the story of the woe-is-me Boiler. Nothing is ever good enough. Just stop.

Again, in Indianapolis does Purdue have more fans than most schools? Of course. But it's also basic logic and it's nowhere near what you'd see for other schools playing in their home state. I certainly wouldn't describe it as a "takeover" - same thing for the Crossroads Classic. Does Purdue have more fans than Notre Dame? Sure, but not in some sort of dominant way. Name the neutral events that Purdue fans have been dominant at, it doesn't happen much.

Purdue does not have a reputation of a traveling fan base, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with woe-is-me.

Also, can you tell me why Iowa State fans should be dominant over Purdue fans in Milwaukee?

3 ISU players from Milwaukee and one from close by WI town makes locals into ISU fans. It looked to me like a long drive from Ames to Milwaukee with no good direct route. It was 2.25 hrs from NW IN to the Bradley Center (about 145 mi.) on Thursday. The Purdue section was full and noisy I thought. Maybe down low all the staff & others were well behaved because Mitch was there right behind the bench.

We had a pretty dominant fan base in Cancun this year.

I'm talking actual fans. There were a lot of actual Iowa State fans there - the city of Milwaukee is not showing up in Iowa State gear to cheer on a local kid in the thousands. And it's not just me - I gave you 3 comments I've seen online talking about low turnout and quiet fans compared to others. I haven't seen any that talk about how impressive the Purdue fans were (no offense, I'm sure you were good! ha).

I just want our fans to show up and at least give a boost of energy. Hopefully that will happen with a late Saturday night tip.

Who cares? I question if they even are based on the other things you've said.
