Makes about $3.75 million at FSU but made a name for himself from 2000-2006 at LSU as an OC and QB coach. I could see LSU dipping back in to their history to grab a well known coach and paying him handsomely for it to the tune of $4.5 - $5 million per year. If the FSU job opens up, I could see Herman being tabbed as the next HC at FSU.

Texas still opening?

Would be interesting to see them by-pass their current Coach running the show especially if he wins out and only has a 10-0 loss to Alabama on the down side of the ledger and him being an La guy. If they do we should strongly consider him for our vacant position since his coaching resume is not just in the South! I also hope we are looking strongly at Fleck and Herman! Obviously things will change on who we can pursue until the end of the Head Coaching vetting is done at other schools!

I think it comes down to Olson, Miles (who goes to Baylor), Skip Holtz, or a wildcard, maybe Troy Calhoun.

In all honesty, I think it comes down to the last two games and their bowl game. If UT can beat Kansas and TCU, that makes Texas 7-5 heading in to a bowl game to win 8 games. Of their 5 losses, the bad ones are to Cal and to a Kansas State team that is still 5-4. They have a rough schedule and their other 3 losses are to Oklahoma (8-2), Okie St (8-2), and WVU (8-1). The loss to WVU and Oklahoma were by a combined 9 points.

I think Strong gets one more year to get to 9 or 10 wins before being booted.

agree Miles to Baylor, No to Holtz, my preferred wildcard is Brohm. Still want Fleck the most.
I think Fleck is out. If you do some digging, he can recruit, but the guys he is winning with, a lot of those he could not get in to Purdue. Just my take on the situation.

Another aspect is the inflated numbers for recruiting rankings. He has had some what large classes and that makes the numbers look a little better than they should. Currently, ESPN doesn't have WMU in the top 40 and Purdue is going to need to be in that range to improve in a decent amount of time.

what do you think of Brohm?
Honestly? A little bit of a Hazell situation where the body of work, 3 years, makes me unsure. He also took over a program that had Willie Taggart and Bobby Petrino get things rolling. He did not have to implement much, he just had to keep the bus going. I do like he has coordinator experience. I don't like how different the Sun Belt and Big Ten are. I think his career path will lead him to American or Big East or whatever it is called then a P5. I don't know if he is on the radar. So little has been released.

Maybe ol' Morgan can pass on his super secret plan of using the Rold Gold helicopter to whisk away to Kent State to talk to Hazell in secret so nobody else swiped him from under our feet! At least, that's what I have heard how Morgan kept his a secret.

if Brohm fits under a coach that keeps things going by his predecessor, and Fleck fits under a program builder but is out, what do you think of Schiano?

Schiano would be a safe pick. Made Rutgers relevant; to be honest I never new they had football until Schiano made them relevant and played in some big prime time games. Fleck is part of the Schiano tree as I think they worked together in that disastrous year in Tampa. The Rutgers experience has me high on Schiano, the Tampa would be the only knock.

I really think Al Golden can coach. Could not win a the U, but I think the U has some problems.

Fleck was the receivers coach under Schiano at Rutgers. I don't put much stock in the Pro stuff, some guys are better off in college like Petrino and Kelley even in basketball, Pitino and Caliparri didn't do well in the Pro's.

It is quite remarkable to see a college coach who has had success go on to a successful professional coaching career. Even Saban struggled in Miami and he is one of the greatest NCAA coaches of all time. Who would you say is the best college to pro coaches for NFL and NBA?

NFL: Barry Switzer was one who had great success at both levels
NBA: Gotta go with Brad Stevens although Billy Donovan was impressive in his first season with OKC and seems to be doing ok without Durant this year.

Don't believe Fleck is out, one question may be if we are willing to wait until early December on him and some of the other high profile coaches.

I think at this point, if Purdue was going to hire Miles, we would have heard about it so that he could start recruiting, building his staff, and getting on campus to observe practices. I think Miles may be an option for Purdue and may in fact be Purdue's #1 option...but we may be Miles #3 or #4. I think Baylor makes an interesting case for Miles but ultimately I think Baylor would be better served going with the Tulsa HC who knows their program AND has a relationship already with many of the players in the program.

Right now, here is my prognostication on the hires around the country:
Already open or closed (* marks best educated guess)
Fresno State: Already hired Jeff Tedford
Baylor: Les Miles *
LSU: Art Briles *
Purdue: PJ Fleck or Greg Olson
FIU: No idea
Georgia State: No idea
Potential Openings
Texas: If Texas opens up, Tom Herman
N.C. State: No idea as I am totally unfamiliar with NC State
Minnesota: Greg Schiano*
Cincinnati: Jeff Brohm
Rice: No idea
UTEP: No idea
BGSU: No idea

Ultimately, I think more jobs come open but this is all the prognosticating I want to do right now. Totally willing to take criticism from these guesses! And I also accept that I posted originally about Fisher going to LSU from FSU...inevitably I don't think that it makes any sense.

Jimbo already makes 5.25 million dollars at FSU. He is the 5th highest paid coach in the country.

Only one I want there is Miles.
I understand that but it is not as simple as just picking someone. Lot of factors. Like last coaching search we had a good one in Butch Jones and it didn't work. Hopefully they interview more than one and don't have to widen the search with none working out.

Art Briles will be out of football for a while or into obscurity. UTEP might be his best option.
BGSU is in his first year
Doeren is safe at NCSU .500 or so record
Claeys is 7-3 in first full year at Minnesota

Helfrich at Oregon should be worried. If Florida ends up 7-5 he may be in trouble.

There will also be a domino effect once successful guys jump to the NFL or other college jobs.

Don't think so, Nat. If things crater next year, it's possible. The Longhorns will be tough to defend next year....freshman QB has played well with more poise than expected. Not sure why their defense has been so abysmal.....other than that now appears to be the new "normal" in the Big XII (ten?).

Update: Texas currently trails lowly Kansas @ the half, 10-7 with four turnovers. If the Longhorns somehow lose this game, I'd say it's better than 50/50 Strong would be let go.

Bill Walsh is the best college to pros coach ever. If you think otherwise, you don't know a thing. Walsh is the best football coach ever, in my opinion.

He's right up there; hard to believe he didn't get a shot earlier. He was also underrated as a talent evaluator. Those 49er teams in the 80's ('84 and '89 were two of the best all-time IMO) were built with some very good drafts, including one with a Purdue linebacker in '80 named Keena Turner.

Update #2: Kansas knocks off Texas 24-21 in OT. The Jayhawks kicked a FG to tie at the end of the game and intercepted a Longhorn pass in the first OT. First FBS win since 2014. Charlie Strong could be gone.....that's a terrible loss to one of the worst teams in a P5 conference. Torches and Pitchforks will be seen in Austin probably.

This might be the worst prediction list I've ever read.
