Resign. Do it now. Or, do it after the upcoming disaster at Illinois. Or, do it at the end of the year. I'm not trying to be snarky. Just go. But, don't drag the program another $6 million down the hole on your way out the door.

That's really the ONLY positive thing you can do at this point.

It's also the decent thing to do for the university that gave you the chance of a lifetime.

You'll still have $6 million if you don't coach another day. Not enough? Fine, take another $500,000 and keep faking it until the end of November.

Then go. On your own accord. Try your luck somewhere else. Or, nurse your wounded pride in an EXTREMELY comfortable early retirement.

That is literally the ONLY positive thing that you can now do for the program you've coached and the university you've represented.

If you knew you weren't going to be getting another job at your current salary the rest of your life, would you voluntarily give up half that amount?

Me either.

Yeah, I don't expect him to give back a dime. I sure as hell wouldn't. He won't leave voluntarily. MB2's had has been forced. It's more or less a choice about WHEN to do it.

A couple thoughts on that:

First, I don't know what I'd do in Haze's position. My profession doesn't reach anywhere near that level of salaries. But, I do have personal pride. And, I wouldn't relish being such a transparent and public fraud.

Second, the point of the post was to point out that there is literally only ONE thing Haze can do to help this program (not that he will). None of the looking at tape or making this or that adjustment or tweaking that strategy is going to make an ounce of difference. If Haze wants to help this program, he can get out of the way. That's it.

Why would he? I wouldn't and I doubt many here would.
Because he has some small sense of dignity, that is why he would/should.

He has all but stolen $6m already...and if genuinely had even a remote interest in doing the right thing or what was best for the program that he ruined in conjunction with Burke, he would do it.

IMO, the "right" thing is spelled out in the terms of his contract. Forfeiting it would be about the dumbest thing he could do. I don't think anyone here would do it themselves no matter what they say. It's easy to say you would when you want someone else to do it for your benefit. It's an entirely different matter when you're looking at your future, your family, and your kids and then decide that your allegiance to a program that is firing is more important to you than your family. He will take the money if it comes to that and he should. We all would.

I disagree that the terms of the contract dictate the "right" thing to do...they dictate certainly what he will do, I agree with you on that...and your point is very valid as well that just about anybody would do the same...not everybody, but most.
