This is slightly irrelevant, but I need to vent a bit. As a Wake Forest alum, the fanbase was pretty excited about the opportunity to land Harry Giles (number one overall recruit from Winston-Salem, NC, where Wake is located)...pretty similar to how I think we all felt during the Swanigan recruitment.
Not surprisingly, apparently he has informed the Wake coaching staff that he is headed to Duke. Much like Swanigan's buddies at Cal, Harry Giles' "best friend" is Jayson Tatum, also heading to Duke.
With that being said, I'm pissed, like I was when Swanigan committed to M$U. I know Swanigan had Purdue ties with Barnes, but I really do think it takes a special type of kid to not pick one of the more traditional powerhouses/to pick the best FIT for the himself.
Everything I've read and/or heard about Caleb is that he is mature beyond his years. It is hard for an 18 year old kid to not get caught up in the "status" that might come with playing for a Duke, UK, UNC, and I guess, in this case, M$U.
Picking a blue-blood like Duke, UNC, UK, KU will never be a bad decision, but college bball needs more kids like Caleb, Ivan Rabb, and Malik Newman. Just a reminder to myself how fortunate we are to have Swanigan; this kid is special.
