The defense is playing well. One blown coverage after a losing play by the special teams - a lot of those thus far today and this season - but otherwise a very strong performance from the D so far.
Too many losing plays. These are plays where the other team doesn't cause the play or make a play, but things like Appleby's two bad pick sixes and the missed TD last week, missed tackles by Frankie. This week, the drops followed by a shanked punt which is all ISU's got at this point. That's good that we are generally dominating them, but bad that we continue to give the other team opportunities and free or easy points. That's what losing teams do.
In that losing play category, I thought it was poor that they didn't at least call timeout to assess Appleby and/or give him a chance to rest. He DE just crashed on Knox knowing Appleby wasn't keeping on 3 and 1. That was poor coaching IMO, but...
Then they had the timeout that almost led to an interception and ultimately did lead to the Hail Mary TD, so it ultimately worked out and probably ended up netting Purdue three points as they got the TD and the FG, instead of just a TD. It was the first case of really good clock management by the staff, even if they maybe backed into it. Credit where it's due.
Appleby may not see the field well, but he had a very, very good first half with ISU stacking the interior gaps and forcing Purdue away from what it really wants to do.
But lots of pressure from four and five man rushes so far.
And hey... number 6 Auburn is LOSING to JSU at home... It could be way worse, fellas.
