Half time adjustments

How much of this is coaching vs. adjusting to the referees?

Still a bit baffled as to why Purdue didnt use their depth, go up tempo, and run on Tenn, subbing out to stay fresh.

I'm trying to understand how adjusting to the referees doesn't involve coaching. Or how it would shut down the opponent's star players.
I'm wondering if TKR starts again today, w/ the way Marquette attacks the basket, having 2 big slower guys together is conducive to success

Over the past couple weeks Ive been talking to lots of people from different fan bases and the common thread that has been mentioned has been about how lucky we are to have painter and that they’d love to have him coaching their team. IU, UK, ND, a Michigan fan, UofL, and a couple IL guys. I mentioned people on here wanting to fire him or get a different coach and well they didn’t have kind words to describe the get rid of Painter crowd. Just saying 🤷🏼‍♂️🖤💛🏀

Most of my IU friends and family members say the same. They would take MP in a heartbeat.

Watching TN KS right now. TN ran out of gas half way thru the second half and KS took a 10 point lead in an otherwise very tight game. I hope we have enough to play 40 minutes. Edey should be fine but Smith, Loyer and Jones played big minutes last night in a very tough game.

Kneckt disappeared in the 2nd half again

Eh this guy is posting doom and gloom all over the board. I’m sure he will be the first one to say “never a doubt!!!” If Purdue is able to break through 😂 😂
I wonder about people who set goals for college players and coaches on a team where they contribute nothing. Then they judge others who celebrate the victories, while they are still obsessing over a game played almost 9 months ago. I weep for their sad and empty lives. ;)

Maybe you should expect more and not less
From every post you've made about this team, you are expecting LESS! Not sure why you are going down this road at this point. Hell, we could be like IOU (IU). They have a good (not great) record right now, but the writing is on the wall that their team is not going anywhere.

I don't watch them but from the highlights that freshmen 7'er looks like the real deal.

Ware has looked good against teams that he should look good against aka when the competition doesn't have someone his size. When he played UConn and Louisville, he didn't have much of an impact on the game. UConn was physical with him and he couldn't finish around the rim. He looked outmatched vs Klingan. Didn't watch the Louisviille game, but his scoring was down there too. It'll be interesting to see how he plays against the B1G bigs and the physicality of the league, as well as how he does vs KU and Dickinson and Auburn.

I see Zach on Reneau and Caleb/Trey on Ware

But doesn't Reneau play more on the perimeter?
No really. He has a deadly left hand hook in the paint. If you let him get to it, he's going to score. I'd be happy if he's shooting 3s (although every year somebody that really isn't a 3 point threat goes off on Purdue. Will that happen this year?)

Yeah I’d agree with you on that. I assume woody will try to have X or Mgbako in PnR situations with Reneau to get edey to switch onto a smaller guard/forward to expose edey out there like he did with JHS. As of right now, X is no where near the talent level JHS flashed for the one game at Mackey and Mgbako is not as quick as JHS. Will be fun to watch, but got some good ones before then!

Not the little I've seen. Ware goes out to the arc and is capable of making them. I haven't seen Reneau go out very far (12-15), but he wants to get to his left hand in the lane and that is why I thought Purdue matches the way I said. Again, I haven't watched them a lot, but one game is enough to get a feel in that difference I think

Reneau has hit a couple of 3’s this year. I don’t think he is as good as Ware is out there though.

Yeah, I haven't watched enough, but Reneau "wants" to get inside because that is where he is more comfortable whereas Ware I think actually prefers to play outside. Hopefully, Purdue is not intimidated down at IU where the last two years Purdue lost some poise. How will IU play Zach and will Purdue stop the sideline screens that end up curling into the lane with Purdue players trailing and Zach in drop or does Zach defend the midrange shot this year? Lance has X, Braden has Galloway or Cupp depending on Fletcher and who is on the court for IU. Two years in a row Purdue has lost down there when they should have won. That shouldn't happen, but maybe every 10 years or so. ;) IU beat Purdue at Mackey rather than Purdue just losing the game. Galloway will straight arm Braden to keep him at bay and take him inside to use his height. X remembers his game at the elbow and will want to go there as well.

There will be very few teams that I think has a 5 that is enough of a 3pt shooter that Purdue must worry. Those teams must be close to Purdue that a couple of 3 balls to make a difference in the outcome.

Reneau is 0-4 this year and was 2-8 last year. I think he hit 1 or 2 in exhibition. I say let him shoot it out there until he hits 4 in a row. he is limited like TJD was and only shoots 6 feet and in and is nowhere near the athlete TJD was last year.

Curious to see Ware against the B1G and if he can do 18 and 8 every night. So far, when he’s faced guys his size or decent competition, he has struggled with finishing around the rim.

I’m sure one of their players will have some career game against us tho and then do nothing the rest of the year.

As of now, IU doesn’t have the shooters. Maybe by the time they play in January they will have it figured out. Mack is slow and not explosive, especially for a 5 star and shooting a whopping 11% from 3. X is being plagued with injuries and doesn’t look like he is any better at this point, and seems to maybe be coming back from the broken foot still? Cupps is a fundamentally sound kid who isn’t explosive, can’t guard an athletic guard and his shot is not there yet. He is still adjusting and if they have to play him more due to the X injury, there might be some growing pains that the fan base is not going to like. Galloway has regressed back to the shooter that he really is. He’s found that not being the 5th option and not being left wide open is a bit tougher to make shots.

I’m sure they’ll be ready when they play us but I hope we are ready to and are able to show that we are the better team.
