Haas thoughts about recruits

The more I watch Haas get mugged or turns around and some mere mortal falls down reminds me of Rowinski!

Of the limited reports and videos I've seen of the recruits, my thoughts! Like to hear from people that have seen them in person, multiple times?

Ewing a lanky good at alot of things great at none but does everything to help his team win games!
Can guard 2-5

Haarms a lanky scorer... on the bad side a Brad Lohaus but could be a McHale type post with an outside shot. Potentially can guard 2-5!

Eastern a thick point that can score! A cross between Cornell (offense) and Tony Jones (defense)!

Sasha is a scorer reminded me of Edmundson with a better outside shot!

Wheeler still growing wing with all the skills offensively! Can guard 1-5! Depending on Taylor could be our only rim protecter!

Any word on Taylor? Is he doing any activities?
Walking w/o the cast? Running? I know he won't help this team, future teams?

We will be alright until we meet a team with penetrating guards or/and a pressing team or teams with 6-6 to 6-9 wings that we can't keep off the boards!

Painter's going to have to make sure adjustments next year because he won't have a reliable low post scorer who you can just dump the ball to on the block (Haas isn't reliable). I don't know if Haarms will develop into a low post guy but most of those Euro players seem to like the perimeter more. I could see Harrms being more like an Ethan Haap than AJ.

Keith Edmonson was an NBA 1st round (now would be considered lottery) draft pick (#10 overall in 1982). Sasha Stefanovic will almost certainly not be that. There's still an open scholarship (possibly two if Swanigan goes pro) for next season, so the Boilers don't necessarily have to bank on Jacquil Taylor being healthy.

Bonefish, I think Haas is more reliable than for which you give him credit. Yes, sometimes he misses point-blank shots or fade-aways that he might not need to take, but that's how things usually go for most true centers at the college level. Can he get off the ground a little quicker and make more efficient moves at times? Yes, but to say he's not reliable on offense is selling him short.

I have NOT seen them in person or on many occasions. I have seen a few videos and read a few things. That said I was very surprised to see a kid that played guard with Ewing. The kid-- Desmond Ballentine hit some Ft's in the 3rd overtime to get the win. The kid may really be good now, but it did make me wonder about the talent on Ewings team and or competition. I hate saying that...because I just didn't see that guard as Big potential and I hate saying that about a player I haven't seen play lately or "much" before. By the same token many didn't think PJ would hit the court in the Big and look at him. Anyway, I have a data point I don't know how to handle.

Nojel Eastern's weakness has beebn desribed as his perimeter shot...however "weak" that may be, Cornell, was a deadly shooter...not convinced that is a good comparison, but boy would I love for it to be...Eastern with a perimeter shot...

Keith Edmonson had some hops and so I'm not sure how to compare him to Sasha. I'll read others opinions, but those thoughts came really quick to me...right or wrong...

Ethan's D is because of his quick feet and his O which must be close is becasue of his quick feet. Haams in video appears to have some stroke on the perimeter. Both are relatively quick for their size...Haap, maybe quicker? I see Haams as a 4...Purdue can play two fours that will play on the perimeter and have an ability to take their man down low. he is not going to be wiht his back to the basket much if a player his size and bigger girth is down low...he will face up on him, but still could go to quick posts when an advantage. I believe. I know a poster says he is playing inside in practice, but Matt is recruiting legit 5's and I'm sure Matt likes a person that can defend with length and play away from the basket as needed...

I think we are out of scholarships for next year at the moment, until Biggie leaves, which would open up 1.

You are correct, but I think Stefanovic going to a prep academy for a year would be a possibility, leaving the door open for one more scholarship to be filled (two if Swanigan leaves early). Purdue would still have plenty of shooters next season without him.

Is the Balentine on Ewing's JC team related to former Evansville guard D.J. Balentine (2013-2016)?

Happ appears to me to be a low post scorer only. I don't see any perimeter scoring from him. Haarms perimeter scorer.

Don't think so. Painter offered him a scholarship to join the team next year. He isn't going to reneg.

What have you seen that leads you to believe CMP told Sasha he may need to go to prep school first?

I'm saying it's an option. I didn't say I saw anything that leads me to believe that. He's done it before, as was just mentioned in my above post, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If he does that and Biggie leaves, it gives him room to pursue both a high-level guard or frontcourt shot-blocking transfer (with a lesser chance of picking up a decommit from another program: i.e. head coach gets fired).

So are trying to say that you believe there's absolutely no way Stefanovic will prep for a year because his circumstance is different than Hale's? We will see.

Painter's done it before (ex: Donnie Hale) so it's not out of question.
No he didn't. His offer to Donnie Hale was to go to prep school and then there would be a scholarship to come to Purdue the following year. Sasha's scholarship was freed up and offered when Smotherman announced he was leaving. Painter wants Sasha at Purdue and he won't reneg on the kid and his family.

I'm saying Hale went to prep school, so it's possible that Stefanovic could be compliant in prepping for a year before his freshman season, regardless of the differing circumstances.

If you read the interviews and stories about his recruitment and commitment, you'll see that none of what you say is considered an option no matter how much you want it to happen.

You are saying that a prep school year is a possibility, and technically you are right. However, Painter would have made that very clear right up front. What was offered l scholarship without strings. A full ride at Purdue for next year. So, while your "possibility" is correct, it is not going to happen that way. With Hale, that was laid out well ahead of the acceptance.

I don't have any background or knowledge about this kid, so I can't talk like any sort of expert on this. All I can do is trust that Painter has found another gem he really wants on the team. Given that I trust his judgement explicitly, I think have Sasha available next year is going to be good for all concerned.
