Even in a 17 pt win it's hard to be optimistic about this team's potential anymore. They will be in the tournament which is better then what had been going on before last year. This team is what it is... The expectation was it would get better from last year with the new player additions. R. Davis is a shell of the player he was last year. I wonder about that knee injury and if it's truly right.

Purdue may have over achieved last year or was Job Octeus that good?

Get used to it I guess. We looked better as a team offensively last year than this imo. Shouldn't be the case.

Glad to see VE play so well. Still concerned about guard play (which is crucial for success in March) and Biggie TO's.

Part of it at least for me is expecting more from biggie and davis. I expected both to have great season.

You guys suck. The game was never in doubt but you come here and bitch and moan about it. I realize perfection is the goal but it's rarely achieved.

Hey I apologize for not putting black and gold glasses on... It's about expectations. I mentioned it is progress that they will be in the NCAA again. I'm not demanding Painter be fired. The guards struggled shooting last year. They are struggling this year. My brother a Purdue grad and John Purdue member stated after the Butler game guard play is what wins in the NCAA tourney. Purdue's guard play is lacking right now. Does anyone disagree?

How many think this is still a Final 4 team right now? Alot of the so called experts before the season thought they might be a Final 4 team. Hey season is not over and anyone can get hot at right time. I was merely pointing out the guards went 5-22 against Penn St when the big men dominated in the middle and Edwards had a really good game.

No, you found the most negative stat you could find to slag on after a win. Are they a final four team right now, no but I can't see how finding one fault in a win is a reason to decide their March fate.

This. Personally I think it's all driven just sent hey can claim some Internet prowess. If any one of us actually had a clue about any of this, we would be coaching and not posting about it here.

Against Illinois, our guards shot 20% better and we lost by double digits. You can't cherrypick stats and come up with a rule.

Against Michigan, our guards shot over 50%.

Last night, our 4 forwards/centers shot 37 of our 59 shots. That's good to see against a team like Penn State. Ryan Cline shot 5 threes last night - made 1. Is that what I'd like to see? No. He was 1-5 against Illinois too. But I don't think you'll be seeing that stat line very much as we progress through the season.

Experts had a barely top 25 team being a final four team before the season? This simply isn't true. Winning the first 9 or whatever games had people talking final four.

Hill is not a shooter but can drive to the basket, Cline will come on, Thompson is usually a decent shooter, I think Purdue will be fine. Would it be nice to have a couple guards with great shooting and can drive to the basket? Yes it would, but most of those teams don't have the size Purdue has either, can't have it all.

Not true. NO EXPERTS called them a final 4 team BEFORE the season. Hell we weren't even in the top 20 for some experts. The FF talk started after we rolled through the first 6 weeks of the season. Right now I'm not sure any team in the country can easily claim to be a FF team. Remember back to where this team was 2-3 years ago and enjoy the year we're having.

Purdue is currently shooting 37.4% from 3 in conference play, which is 5th in the Big Ten (Michigan State is 4th at 37.7% - so basically tied for 4th).

Last year, we shot 32.7% from 3 (12th in the Big Ten).

Obviously those are primarily guard oriented stats. It would take a lot more work to look at FGs by guards only and don't have the time (or interest really).

In terms of "guards", I'm most concerned about Raphael's play. This is a guy who was our 2nd leading scorer last year at nearly 11 ppg. I don't know if there's something wrong, but he has seemed off quite a bit this year - or just not interested in driving. He's such a strong and big guard that he should create mismatches - especially with teams so focused on our big guys.

To me the guard issue remains one of figuring out who are going to be our horses down the stretch and into the tournies. I think Dakota has been establishing himself now as one of the 20+ mpg regulars. And as a senior leader who has proven himself, Painter is going to stick with Davis through thick and thin unless he's hurt. Hill and PJ are going to split the PG minutes in a ratio based on effectiveness game to game. It comes down to Stephens and Cline for the remaining minutes, and it appears Painter is willing to pull back on Stephens as the "known commodity" and give Cline equal run to see how quickly the freshman can develop and adjust to the college game. By season's end I would expect one to absorb some of the other's minutes, and overall productivity of the position to see a slight increase.

I think this is spot on. I think CMP is testing both Stephens and Cline to see who can establish himself as the first #2 off the bench. I've been impressed with Cline's passing lately although Stephens does that well too. But we need one of those two to get more consistent.

I think getting CS out of his rut and VE continually to improve are both more critical to our long term prospects than our backup shooting guard. But we need all on track by March to make some noise.

No, because most people don't go into coaching. It's a "risky" profession to go into.
