Greatest Purdue wins

At home vs WV and on road at MSU during baby boilers junior season. Both complete beat downs. OSU the following season. Chad Austin game winner.

The 50s Purdue football wins over MSU and Notre Dame which broke the opponents long winning streaks. Then there was the Miracle Catch of Morales to beat OSU and set up the Rose Bowl!

In football, the wins over Michigan and OSU in 2000,plus smoking IU in the final. As I stood in Ross Ade,and watched the celebration begin on November 18,2000,I felt like Purdue had never lost a game.In basketball, none of us old timers will ever forget Rick Mounts game winning shot vs.Marquette in 1969.I think that one haunted Al McGuire until the day he died.

Good Ole Al McGuire...the guy who said that Grob couldnt play before his brother called him out on it. RIP.

1998 women's basketball against 3-time defending national champion Tennessee in Mackey. Tennessee had gone 39-0 the year before and brought back all of their key pieces. Winning that game set the table for a dominant, national championship season. When thinking about how big of a deal this was at the time, I remember some members of the football program running on to the court for the postgame celebration. It would be similar to what it would be like to knock off UCONN today.

I loved the game vs IU in Mackey in 87 or 88 (I'm old my & memory is fading) Purdue down twenty at the half and comes back to win it. Too much fun.
I was at this game with my Middle School son. We sat two rows in front of some very, very obnoxious IU fans with a huge sign that they blocked people's view with. The ushers were unconcerned. It was 30 minutes of hell - until about the 10:00 minute mark in the 2nd half. The IU guys left with about 30 seconds to go ... and had to walk down the steps amid the hooting and hollering PU fans ...

Regardless of the risk, it was great for my son to see the storming of the floor ... he went on to play D1 ball.

Both of those were Purdue wins, but I don't think they were down by 20 in either one. They were down by about 14 at Gloomington in 1988,came back and took the lead but lost at the end. Then in 1990 they overcame a similar halftime deficit at IU and won.In 1987 Purdue won at Mackey on a Thursday night and in 1988 it was on a Sunday afternoon.

These are all good but since I was at this game:

January 13, 1979. That night #1 Michigan State came to Mackey Arena and left a loser as Joe Barry Carroll and the Boilers upset the Spartans 52-50. Carroll had 27 points and 11 rebounds , but it was Arnette Hallman that provided the difference. Hallman hit an off-balance 25-footer as the buzzer sounded to give Purdue the win. Michigan State went on to win the NCAA Tournament that year.

I got so loaded that night afterwards:)

In footbal, the bowl win over Kansas State since we were a huge underdog and they were pissed that they were even playing our "lowly" team due to their late season loss. I remember ESPN guys saying it was like a top 5 upset of all-time in bowl games (at that time). Those were the days.

Enjoy a trip down memory lane.......Crazy Game.....with what seemed like non-stop action (good and bad)....Purdue tried to let this one get away........was in the end-zone seats in the Alamo Dome watching Brees and the Boilers drive toward us for the game-winning TD.....pandemonium in San Antonio ensued.
