Great Job today Nic Holt !!!!!

We need to keep him at all cost. He’s as good as Brohm. Maybe better.
Better imho. He has put Purdue in 3 winnable games and CJB found ways to lose to Rutgers and NEB. WI was the other and that is a tall task yet we were in it till the end for the most part.

Offense lost it with no balls going for it on 4th and three yards, but I agree prevent defense stunk. Needed more pressure on QB (Lee) in the last 50 yards of the field. No excuse.

Yes! Holy has been a huge shot in the arm for the defense and the whole program. Can't remember the last time the defense carried the program, probably 2001-3.

Yep. I bagged on him last week, so here to acknowledge todays performance and the season at large.

If we had showed up for RU and not melted against Neb, we'd be 6-3. How weird. Very weird.

Totally agree but there is a poster on Knucklehead who says he should be fired for how bad a job he has done. Lol.

If you were on defense would you want to go back the bench and face Coach Holt. We have been fun to watch most of the year and better times are coming.

Well if you pay $10 a month for stuff that shows up on Twitter the second it's posted here, you're clearly qualified to make such statements.

I see he put Cason at DB after a while in game

Good adjustment.

I don’t think cason was great last year, but his performance last year was better than what Hardy gave last week.

Cason can play and is good in coverage. Hardy is better vs the run I’d say. We needed coverage today so Cason played more. Good adjustment.

Obviously Holt has done a tremendous job. The defense that was legitimately one of the worst in BCS football last year has been pretty good this year.

That said, let's keep things in perspective. The Nebraska loss was just as much on the defense as it was on the offense. Also, when your offense struggles it helps make the defense look better because usually when the other team gets up a score or two they get more conservative on offense when they know the opposition struggles to put up points. You saw last week what happened when we handed the defense a spot where it could win us the game against an ok offense in a spot where they had a sense of urgency to score.

Purdue is giving up 18.9 ppg this season after giving up 38 per game last year. And they've done it despite injuries to key players and with little depth.

Yesterday was the fewest points Purdue has given up on a B1G game since 2007.

Sure, there could be a more consistent pass rush, and the secondary is being held together by duct tape, but the overall effort has been exceptional.

You could be right, I just remember reading after the game that when Hunte went downwe're playing Kamal Hardy and without playing to prevent there is a more than likely chance that he would get burned very quickly. Hence the offense going directly at him play after play. At least by playing the preevent we had a chance. No depth equaled exhausted players trying to cover ground in a zone.

You can recruit, you can add depth over time but you can't teach effort. These players have 'it' in them. The other coaching staff could never bring it out of them and that's on those coaches, these coaches have the ability to do that. Can't wait till we have the depth we will have in two years! The results of the season will certainly yield us very good fruit in the fifth year transfer market. You hate to have to go there, but it won't be forever.

Can we praise Holt without taking a dig at CJB? It’s silly not to give the head coach any credit for the defense. Chryst and Harbaugh come to mind.

This is the post of the week IMO. Holt is holding together the defense with duct tape. The defense lost the game after the injury to Hunte and they couldn't stop the pass. Hardy just got torn to shreds and carved up. An adjustment was made and Purdue's defense looked much better even without Hunte. Also, Purdue is without McCollum who is the field general and the best tackler. He shores up the middle and he has been gone. Holt needs to be paid whatever it takes to keep him and he is the most important coach. The other co-DC and LB coach has been outstanding as well. The backups have really stepped up even lacking the talent of the starters.

I love stats and nothing makes me happier to see tangible evidence over opinion. Obviously the defense benefits from not as many turnovers as last year, but the Purdue offense has needed the defense to bail them all year and they have really stepped up. Statistically they have been significantly better in almost every way. Several times coming up with amazing stops and turnovers in the red zone. If not for the defense playing out of their mind, Purdue would have been blown out a few times and would defiantly not have 4 wins st this point.

People are worried about CJB getting poached but Holt is somebody to watch. He is one of the best coordinators in the country and he matches CJB's fiery personality. He is a perfect fit and he should be getting lots of love.
