Many media types like to grade the Boilers. So, how would you grade Purdue's performance against Missouri? By all accounts we dominated and out-performed in all phases of the game. Nathan Baird gave Purdue the following grades:

Coaching: A-
Offense : B+
Defense: A
Special Teams: B-

I don't believe he watched the same game that I did. Nobody, (including Nathan Baird) expected Purdue to win let alone dominate an SEC opponent on the road in all phases of the game. Based on that alone, I give them an A+ across the board. What are your thoughts?

I'm fine with his grades. A+ grades indicate there's no need to improve. We're nowhere close to that and won't be this year.

I think those grades are pretty fair. Only scored 7 points in second half and missed 2 field goals. Fortunately the game was in the bag at halftime so it didn't really make a difference.

Per Brohm, we went conservative on our play calling in the second half and ran the clock. Based on the Texas A&M verse UCLA game when Sumlin (who many of us coveted) did the opposite and lost, I consider that to be smart coaching and classy. I think Purdue could have scored 70 pts on Mizzou if they wanted to, but then everyone would be crying about our lack of sportsmanship.

How do you award an A- to a coach that you think others might poach?

Baird is much better than the previous guy. Check out the grades vs. Louisville. Lots of C's when Purdue, who had been horrific for years, plays #16 team in the country and Heisman winner straight up. After that game, J&C switched to Baird.

If you grade based on your fears you shouldn't be handing out grades.

No fear, I am being objective. Grading should be based on clearly set expectations BEFORE the event. If you were to establish standards for performance prior to the game, Purdue's actual performance for the Missouri game would have been 95 percentile.
