Got Us A First 5* Player?

Karlaftis is essentially a 5 Star recruit already. As soon as his HS football season starts and player & team rankings are released, he will be a 5 Star. It is more than likely Marvin Grant is/will be as well.

I think that is the general feeling about George and I think Purdue may end up having 2 or 3 3 stars get that fourth star after their strong summer showings at camps and such: Hunter, Bilodeau, and possibly Hewitt. Hunter appears to be the best bet but Bilodeau has had a great summer at the National combines.

I doubt grant is. Too much of a tweener to move up a ton

I think he’s actually ranked a tad higher than Karlaftis now. George is like a 5.8 and I think Grant is a 5.9. I’m really hoping Grant gets to play free safety for us. It’s been a while since we had a bigger safety that lowered the boom.

Someone from rivals implied Karlaftis wouldn't move up due to the fact he didn't participate in any of the rivals camps this summer.

I’ve always somewhat assumed with the rapid growth teenagers have, coupled with the fact their physiques do not regress, (barring a bad injury) the incoming seniors get a small, but automatic bump in their ranking. I could be wrong.
But after watching every highlight I could find on Karlaftis, it’s pretty easy to see why everyone wants him. He is relentless. If healthy and he keeps his head in the right place, he is NFL bound after Purdue. I’m really hopeful that Yanni keeps a scenario open that includes Purdue.

Pollard. He was one that I knew wanted to lower the boom every time and had the stones to do it every time. Dude was a football player.

For sure! I remember he and Albert Evans laying some viscious hits. Although I do recall a few occasions when each of these guys had open shots on what is now referred to as a “defenseless receiver”. Each tried to lower the boom and truck the opponent while not wrapping up with each becoming scores for the bad guys. Of course this no longer happens with the same frequency as you risk getting booted from the game and possibly the first half of the next. I can’t imagine how a safety like Bob Sanders could make it through a few downs, let alone a game. That dude was a heat seeking destroyer.

Most new info I share on this board comes from the Laf J&C. If it ever contridicts something someone else has posted, I don't share it. Not here to argue just share cuz I know some of you guys are from out of town. But I did post over a month ago some things things that were said by CJB and George. In that same article, Yanni seemed pretty adamant he was going to go wherever George goes. Very much wants to continue to be his teammates in college also

Then find other methods for evaluation.

You would think a kid from Indiana with offers from coaches at Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, USC, Florida, Michigan, etc would tell Rivals all they need to know about him being a 5 star talent? It's silly they need him at their camp so a few "experts" that don't scout at college or NFL level can put that 5 star stamp on him.

Bernard went to my high school and was/is friends with my brother. I came home one weekend fall 2002, Bernard's senior year. My brother insisted we go to the South Side homecoming game. "You gotta see Bernard, he is incredible ". I went to the game and it was like watching an adult mercilessly tackle children. There was one play in particular where they hiked the ball and Bernard just ripped through the line, left his feet and nailed the qb right in the chest. I dont know how that kid got up. Just thinking about the sound that hit made makes my arm hair tingle to this day...

Did you have the pleasure? My condolences to your bones if so.

Yep, I was OL so didn't really get any other experiences than one punt play, ran down to cover the punt and got rocked by his block. I thought I was a pretty solid 205 lbs or so...

My freshman year I also sacked Selwynn Lymon before he changed HS and moved to WR.

So I have an up and down history with Purdue football players from Fort Wayne haha

So, will he ever get a 3* rating in the rivals team ranking? He still has a 0*, now.

I'm not sure. I'm not in charge of Rivals. I do know from following other recruiting sites, that punters and kickers very rarely get anything other than a 2 star rating. To be given a 3 star rating is high praise for a kicking specialist.
