I had a feeling last week about the Iowa game and although I called a close game of 27-24 with us winning on a late FG, I'll take a W prediction every time.

This week, I don't see a hangover from Purdue like Iowa might have experienced.
Coming off their best performance of the year on both sides of the ball, I think the Boilers are playing with a ton of confidence and Whisky is a good matchup at the right time for us.
Purdue D will load the box and force Mertz to pass, which is not their strength, but....need to be very aware of play action and not let them bust a couple big plays over the top. Because on O, Wisc will try to run, run and run some more because that's been their recipe for success vs PU.
On O, P will do what they do. Try to get the ball to Bell, use some weird plays to get some yards on the ground and keep the Wisc D guessing. If Wisc does something to take away Bell, I expect Sheffield to have a big game and then make the Wisc LBs decide to cover King out of the backfield or our TEs in the middle of the field.
Should be great weather and a great home field atmosphere.

Isn't Trice back as well this week? I don't see us having a drought as I fully expect Brohm has brought up the losing streak.

I think our D is a constant and don't see it changing on saturday. Jf our OL reverts back to the old ways that can be a problem w/ giving our QB's time to throw. Basically the only way we lose this is by giving it away w/ turnovers and some occasional bad calls by the refs.

Expect Wisconsin to hold our receivers and then bring stunts and blitzes that overwhelm one area of the pass pro.. in an attempt to get to Oconnell before a play can develop .. that and the fact that we won’t run the ball on them well so expect a lot of 2nd and 11s, 3rd and 9s etc

The way we lose this is covered in your second sentence, not your last one

Iowa was a perfect storm. I don't think we've seen the perfect disaster yet. Minnesota was close to one. Truth is this team is somewhere in between.

Before the Iowa game I stated that no outcome would surprise me except for a Purdue blowout victory. I will amend that now by stating that no outcome will surprise me on Saturday, period.

If we lose im fine with it.. this is a team with two sides of the ball where we have good players BECAUSE OPPOSING TEAMS HAVE TO SPEND SO MUCH ENERGY ON BELL AND KARLAFTIS. If bell was Aaron Valentin and karlaftis was Ryan Russell there would be a lot of so so from this team…

however, a lot of guys are developing into a team that could just be a really good team in 2022 with Anderson and rice in those spots.. and before anyone says Anderson hasn’t played, they better figure something out if it isn’t him, cause Sullivan ain’t gonna be the answer

Interesting you mentioned Anderson. I was asking myself where he was at.

Well if it’s not him they better have a high caliber transfer coming in. Sullivan is not an answer and our pass rush would go from a serious threat to completely self checked.

I don’t disagree with the premise that our big 2 are catalysts for their units but especially on D, you can’t name a guy who isn’t vastly better than last year. Dean and Lawrence could play for most teams on the league. Alexander, Graham and Grant look very very good. Both our corners aren’t great but are competent and we have weathered the storm of missing our best one

I agree. Maybe this the day the Wisconsin ESPN GameDay demon is exorcised. Seems like a hinge game that could swing trajectory of program in upward direction. Brohm's had the big upsets, consistently beating the Wisconsin's of the B1G when they are beatable is the next step forward IMO.

Oh no they are .. but we wouldn’t be the number 12 defense and number 4 scoring defense in THE NATION if we just had just a pretty good DE that you didn’t have to double team. Probably more like mid 40s, maybe a little lower, you know?

Whereas you look at the progress you just noted, and it’s very unlikely the exact same progress is made two years in a row, but the guys I expect to be players in their own rite next year, would be:

DE
NT Johnson
3T Deen, Lewis
Field end Jenkins
WLB Alexander
MLB
SSLB Graham
CB Trice
FS Allen
SS Grant
CB Brown

Those guys will have served notice that they arrived in the previous season and it will be all about taking that next step to approach the Georges, Stus and Gilbert Gardners to me.. very possible that Allen, trice, Johnson, Graham, Grant and brown are better players next year than anyone on the defense is this year except George. Allen could be a Stu like force independent of anyone else back there.

and then the list of guys I’d be thinking may make a big arrival could start as small as Yanni, Austin, OC Brothers etc and could grow big enough to include (in no order) anderson (who almost has to arrive in some manner), Hudgins, wahlberg, Saunders, Romfph (sp), Mitchell, kreul, Kane etc.

It could end up being a defense, if they don’t end up with a big hole at DE (Sullivan is not an every down answer; love the kids motor and toughness he just doesn’t have the burst and is built more like an offensive tackle - where I still think he could have potential) that manages to lose George Karlaftis and not be much worse. Which would be a big achievement, but I’m just not putting it past this staff and these players on defense. Other than DE and MLB, I really don’t expect it to be the kind of defense that looks friendly for incoming transfers who want to play right away.

I think that the team and coaches have represented Purdue well already (need only two wins to cap that) .. but particularly on defense. Even KD has impressed me with the fact that I really don’t remember looking at a play and thinking “the opposing OC just exposed KD on that play.”

I’m nervous about this game. I know there will be some let down from Iowa.. I just hope it’s the kind we could weather and still win

I think it’s categorized as “why the F are you letting elite players practice full time” lol.. we have to lead NCAA football all time in practice injuries to big time players
Man, it sure seems like it.

I’m confident Hagen will develop a solid DE to replace George.

It’s not Hagen I doubt.. it’s what he’s working with. If Anderson was gonna be pretty good next year, you’d probably be seeing him some now.. unless he’s hurt and or just adjusting. I wanna see him for a couple games here and there to feel good about it
