I don't care who we beat, it's nice to not be in a bad mood this afternoon. This was by far a better game to watch than last week. There are some bright spots with this team that flash every so often. I hope they can build on it. We can win next week against a team with a new QB playing. Hell if my high school team, the Goshen Redskins (only Redskins until December 31) can win their first 4 games after 23 straight losses, anything can happen. Off to Rudy's Bar and Grill!

Good win Boilers!

I don't know, do you remember that one call that Shoop made sometime in the 3rd quarter that was not enough outside the box or was too predictable or didn't maximize our players talents enough or was....what the hell, nevermind. I too am quite happy with today's game. Nice effort boys!
By the way, can you believe in an ass backward state like indiana, that the town of Goshen would lead the way in removing an offensive mascot name? I'm both impressed and perplexed!

Yep. my feelings exactly. 70 some % of voters said don't change the name but political correct wins. The school board wilted under pressure from those like the Mennonite college in town. I'm like you, torn between what is right for the times but also looking at tradition of 140 years. Any way I'm still thumbs up for the Boilers, as wins are few and they needed something positive to happen. Red beers and Fireballs make me easy...my wife says. Easy is okay after a win:)

hey Gem, in regards to red beers, I finally had a Fat Tire red ale last week and it was great.

My youngest daughter's boyfriend thinks they are the best. Of course I bought a six and he drank 5 of them. Damn kids, rrrr!

Is there a big difference between red and brown ales? Sun King makes a nice brown ale called Wee Mac.
Personally, I think Brown Ales are heavier and have higher bitterness. Some people like that hit better and drink it slower. They don't have the hop taste that Pale and Red Ales have. That said, there are some good ones of each. I just prefer the higher hop taste vs malt and fullness of browns. Some dark beers make me cringe. That's just me though.

hey Pub, if you want to try a great Brown, Newcastle Brown Nut Ale is the way to go.

That is one of the best. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.
I'm actually more partial to lagers than ales, especially any ale with an IBU > 30. My delicate palate just can't handle it. Suprisingly, I can handle many of the porters and stouts. I really like that left hand milk stout and there is a seasonal dark beer from a brewery up in Sagatuck ( can't recall it's name ) called Neopolitan that I really like. Swear you can taste chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla in it. Of course if you just pour me a Yuengling I'll be pretty satisfied

That would be the Saugatuck Brewing Company...they've been around for about a decade. If you can find it, Bell's Double Cream stout is wonderful.

Interestingly, Newcastle is actually a blend of two different beers. They blend a strong stock ale with a lower gravity amber ale to get to the final product.

Thanks for the tip, I take it with a name like Double Cream it has a vanilla flavor? I'm not much of a coffee fan because I'm not fond of the taste, yet I do like the coffee flavored stouts. Recently had a Guiness with a double shot of espresso ( a Dufrain? ) while visiting my daughter at IU and enjoyed that. I was both happy and alert. Thought
Wee Mac was a brown ale because Sun King bills it as a Scottish Brown Ale, but I'm probably just splitting hops,
or barley, or hairs here.

"Brown ale" is a really broad category that can range from low-hopped, malty Southern English browns to hoppier Northern English browns (Newcastle) to almost anything goes for American browns, which can be one step above an amber ale all the way to one step shy of a porter. Scottish ales are a little more narrowly defined and are typically more in line with Southern English browns (more malt than hops) but in varying degrees of alcoholic strength. They also tend to have more caramel overtones and less chocolate flavor (not real chocolate, but a chocolate-like roastiness from the darker malt). Another really nice Scottish ale is Three Floyd's Robert the Bruce.

Here's an interesting tasting article about the Bell's DCS. Like most of Bell's stouts, it's chewy and full of flavor, and absolutely delicious if you can find it on tap served on nitrogen.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I couldn't help myself!
