good news:

MSU looks between vulnerable and bad. Iowa looks meh and osu even looks a little vulnerable as does Wisconsin.

Bad news:

Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana look better than I thought.

If we play as smart or smarter and as hard or harder than all remaining opponents, we could to 5-2 to close the season our. We could also close our 2-5 If we play dumb. Anything in the -2-5 or +5-2 range just seems too far out of possibility over a course of 7.

What say ye about our remaining lot...

Ramsey had a knee brace on in the game. He's going to take a pounding from here on out, the talking heads noted it took away the option. Illinois beat up on Rutgers, who lost a lot of their D before the season even started? I still think Lovie is gone by the end of the year. He's Illinois version of Fred Akers.

We better play their run well.

OSU will not be beaten by anybody in the Big Ten this year. They just have superior talent at every position then anyone else and have a superior staff. We could have been totally healthy? Played our best game in years and they still beat us.!Right now, I agree with you on MSU. Wisky, , still think they are the best in the west and they physically beat you up,

If you guys couldn't beat OSU, then no one will be able to beat OSU.

Not a chance. Illini AD is invested in Lovie, he'll get this season and next at a minimum, especially now that the win total is moving in the right direction. And then there's the $12 mil buyout right now....

Not what I am saying Kentucky. What I am say is OSU has more talent at every position on the field then anyone else in the Big. Andvthay have more team speed then anyone else. And they are better coached then anyone else. They are at a level that is higher then anyone else, Alabama maybe being the only team in country with more talent. OSU is just that good.

Illinois played a bad Rutgers team.

IU had some success against OSU running a few RPO plays but once OSU figured it out, there wasn’t much in the tank for IU and Ramsey. After IU’s last TD of the first half, the score ended up 35-10. The second time IU took the lead, OSU quit sleep walking and played the way they should have.

In keeping with the theme of the original post, I see the good and bad also affecting our recruiting. If we had beaten Eastern Mich, mizzou, and/or Northwestern, I have to believe those elite recruits who are taking a wait and see approach would have committed by now. Admittedly, we haven't lost anybody, but we haven't gained anybody either. And we're now seeing elite players like Gibson and Sampson make their choices. And we're also seeing other elite athletes adding other teams to their list of visits.

I have to wonder if Sampson would have chosen IU over a 5-0 Purdue team. Kentucky started out the year with an impressive run including a win over Florida. That sealed the deal for Gibson. Admittedly there were other factors, but if Kentucky had started out of the gate with several losses, and Purdue was 5-0, we may have been able to sway him our way.

To win over some of our remaining undecided elite targets, we're going to have to pull off some more impressive wins than just Nebraska and Boston col. we're going to need wins over MSU and Iowa.

One of the problems with the IU game is by the time it happens, most elite athletes have already given their commitment and it becomes a lot harder trying to flip their decisions. Yes, it's possible. But it is not very frequent for a team like Purdue to flip a recruit that late in the season if they've already committed to a team like OSU.

I'm thinking of guys like Bell, Weaver and Robinson. Once they commit to a team, I highly doubt they would flip to another school.

And Iowa was able to match their talent level last year? OSU always has more talent and finds a way to lose.

Just how bad did you think Minnesota was going to be? They’ve been exposed by the first two decent teams they played. They will be lucky to make a bowl even with their ridiculously soft schedule.

Illinois can’t throw the ball, and IU has begun their annual descent.

Certainly a better record would help but I don't think that the early losses were factors in either the Sampson or Gibson case. Sampson was already committed to OSU. There's another factor there in his flipping that's TBD I think. Most recruits factor things into their decisions that are based on emotion and/or the more juvenile logic and concerns that one would expect from a 16 / 17 / 18 yr old. Gibson probably was a UK commit from the beginning given his their ties to his head coach and coaches son (Gibson's friend) who also committed. I think that he just wanted the attention of being recruited as his and his mom's twitter feeds would suggest. But you do make some good points. Winning always helps of course but if you were an offensive recruit, would you NOT want to play in this Purdue offense? -- Looks like a great place to showcase a skill set at ANY offensive position, including OL.

I think Michigan can beat OSU this year. OSU's defense is not as solid as it has been in recent years, especially with Bosa out, and I think that Michigan's defense can limit OSU's production. I thought that Michigan State was overrated this year from the very beginning and I also thought that Indiana was better than most people would have expected. They are vulnerable versus teams with strong offenses, however, as they don't score tons of points. I actually think they'll beat Iowa. I think that Purdue will beat them if we protect the ball and don't give up big plays on special teams.

Illinois still stinks. I think that Illinois looks like I expected them to and Rutgers looks worse. That's saying a lot actually.

I like Purdue's chances to win 4 or 5 games in the remaining schedule with losses to OSU and Wisconsin. That would be the only ones if it's 5 wins. 4 wins is more probable, with a loss to either Iowa or Michigan State - probably Iowa given their O-line and running game versus Purdue's front 7; 'MSU's Lewerke will likely turn the ball over and make poor decisions in trying to keep pace with Purdue's offense if history is any indication.

This may be the year that no Big 10 team makes it into the CFP since I expect that OSU will lose to Michigan (which would leave no Big 10 team undefeated) and no one will stop Notre Dame. I expect Wisconsin to make it to the Big 10 championship game and lose to Michigan a second time.

I’ll point to the fact Rutgers got absolutely blasted by Kansas and Buffalo on consecutive weekends before playing Indiana.
