Good Kid

He's been brutal tonight. McIntosh was abusing him and he had at least one brutal turnover I remember.

It's clear Spike isn't up to speed yet, but he has handled the ball pretty well when PJ is on the bench. I think he will be a different, better player come March when we will need everyone to pick it up a notch! I still expect some great things from Spike as the season comes down to crunch time. For a kid that almost called it quits last year due to health reasons, I think he is doing pretty good.

Before surgeries, at MI he was decent, not great at shooting. Never as good from distance as Mathias or Cline.
I wonder if his current shooting struggles are completely related to his surgeries or whether it's as much mental as physical. I keep waiting for his shots to start falling.

Probably more about the injuries and the late start due to health and once he started getting his feet back under him...he hurt his back. Give him another week or two to get his conditioning and feet back and i'm sure he'll start playing closer to the Spike we remember from UM.

The OP is just as bad of a troll as kesselschmeck is. Wouldn't surprise me if they were one in the same person.

Idk but I bet Kess is one of us normal fans that just got sick of the non-sense, maybe Nage or TC but I still hope it's secretly OB52

BDaddy,

I hadn't realized it quantitatively until I read your post.....but I looked at the stats. Spike Albrecht is 6-28 (3-19 from 3) on the season....not good. Like others, I still think/hope there may be a key/big moment where he might end up making the difference in a game. Gotta be tough coming back from multiple surgeries and losing a spot at Michigan. Regardless, he still brings a spark/energy from the crowd.

I still like Spike!

Also....still have to give him kudos for the Kate Upton twitter shout-out.

But Spike has no business playing on this team.
While he has not produced necessarily in any impressive fashion, to suggest that he has no business playing on this team is a bit much.

He is generally well-prepared when he enters a game in terms of knowing what is happening on the floor and what his role is...he is generally pretty good with the ball...and he still has the ability to do some things outside of scoring that can (and have) help (helped) Purdue.

He is not the player most had hoped that he would be, but hard to know if that is due to his hip injury that he was trying to come back from, or the back injury that he suffered (if not both). He certainly is not the player that he was when he was at Michigan, but, he can still do some positive things on the floor and is at least respectable I think in terms of being a back-up PG. In addition, I think he can be a solid/positive influence in the locker room, during practice and off the court for this team, which is something else of value that he offers.

While he has not racked up big numbers, I respect his approach and his effort, and I very much respect (and appreciate) that he has bought in and tried to do anything that he might be able to that would help Purdue.

His +\- has to be brutal as well.

I like Spike and he is probably as intuitively smart as anyone on the team (or in the same league as DM and PJ). But there's something wrong. We heard this summer rumors he had no lateral quickness due to his surgeries. I think it might be more than that. I'm OK with 5 min/game unless something changes. I'm not dogging him; he just hasn't earned more.

He is here for street cred mainly.

All kidding aside. He is a confident PG and ball handler. Also, he isn't afraid of the big moment. Painter brought him in solely for press break situations in the tourney. He will fulfill his role before the season is over, trust me.

Spike is a good insurance policy that we got at a very reasonable price. It may yet pay big dividends and yet it may lapse without a payout. I'm still glad we bought the policy.
