Giant center, small forwards, small guards

Grant Williams with 22 and 8. Haas and Haarms with 15 points and 7 rebounds combined

I'm not sure Taylor is not more productive agains many teams if he can get healthy. Haas' inability to move is highly problematic against some teams. How does he come away with just 3 rebounds today?

Reactions: Do Dah Day
We don't have the size to dribble penetrate or rebound effectively against big, strong, athletic teams. Ground Hog day all over again!

The problem in this game wasn't the makeup of the team...it was the effectiveness of the team. The ball stuck in two players hands for 30 of the 59 shots taken today. When the ball was moved and early shots passed up for better opportunities later in the clock or for more open teammates, the shots were knocked down. As an example, Vince took a one footed, step back fade away jumper that he air balled and Carsen's shot selection looked more like it did at this time last year than it did in the first four games.

When the ball is spread around and the players move the ball on offense to create good to great looks, they can score pretty much at will. When one aspect of the offense is struggling, they must look to create for the other aspects of the offense. Today, the outside game struggled and their failed to push to the get the ball inside or to get to the rim to create open shots. Against Marquette, they forced the ball inside when their outside shots were not falling and you saw they were able to maintain control of the game. Against UT, when the outside shots were not falling....Purdue continued to shoot from the outside instead of focusing on getting the ball inside to the big men. Purdue's big men had 8 total shots while UT's had a total of roughly 22-25 total shots. Those are issues that shouldn't be a problem with 4 senior starters and another one who started 21 games last season....its an issue where CMP may have allowed to happen to some degree as a teaching point instead of trying to change.

And yet painter would rather give a guy like eifert major minutes while deciding to red shirt an undeniable talent like wheeler.

The annoying thing is he for his 4th with like 10 min to go and we never went after him. Looked almost scared of him
I listened to a couple minutes of a Knoxville radio post-game show to see their thoughts on the game. The hosts and callers were all shocked we didn't really double team Williams at the end of the game. They apparently have poor shooters and they were not confident that their guards could consistently knock down open threes if left open to double Williams.

strategically, we sucked. several decisions were not in our best interest. too many outside shots, too few inside shots, far too many offensive rebounds for them, far too many poor % shot choices for us, not pushing Williams to foul out, not fouling at the end, not double-teaming Williams. Our decisions were not based on what would help us win the game.

As a coach, I understand some of the specific decisions, but time after time, we made the wrong strategic decision ... which must always be to win the game.
