Should Purdue redshirt Gelen? He's already down to the 3rd string. Why not use a redshirt rather than not.

I thought he would be very motivated this year being an upperclassman now and new coaches. Is this a motivation tool to drop him to 3rd string?

All the articles I read in the past about him, he always seemed self motivated with being a multi sport athlete in high school. Is it something else?

Motor

If he hasn't figured it out by now, a redshirt would do nothing to change that. Had high hopes for the kid, but if he's not putting effort in, sit him on the bench.

He was a kid, who in high school, was simply bigger, stronger, and faster than anyone else. Now that every one else is on par or better than he is, the work ethic has to be there...and from all accounts it isn't. Maybe he can be like a KK Short and the motor simply turns on at some point full time...but until then, he will always be a liability on the field.

Short absolutely never had a motor issue. Early on, he had a body/size issue but his motor was never in question.

I think its a little of what got you here wont keep you here. Success under the previous Dline coach does not equate to success under Melvin. Being an ex-wrestler, I know Gelen understands and appreciates the "grind", but has to adjust to Melvin and his expectations. He'll make the adjustment.

Never count out a Lake Central Indian......Gelen Robinson and David Yancey will make their make on this team before it is said and done.

Boiler Up!
