Gave away a game at top10 Wisconsin

Pleased. If I'd told you we'd be this close to a Top Ten Wisky last year, you would have signed my commitment papers. Heck, let's be honest, if I'd told you that at the start of thee season you would.

We still lack talent, we still lack depth, but there is no give up in these kids. They kept fighting. To paraphrase Rocky, "They don't know it's a damn show."

If we don't lose anybody else to injury (Wilson's injury looked bad, and we need his "nasty" on that D-line) and get the Shoop out of the QB's heads, we could sweep every game in front of us. Boiler UP!!

We were in control of that game in the second half.

We have it away.

Hopefully we reload and in 2019 we are in a better place talent wise

Not sure if I should be furious or pleased with the progress

Definitely threw game away. Should be pleased with defense. Offense needs a lot of work. The O continues to struggle scoring a TD against a good defense. Between Mich and Wisc one TD and 4 field goals and a win against those type of teams simply isn't coming without some kind of offense. Though, a far cry from prior state of team under D.H. That would have been one ugly game with last year tactics. Overall simply night and day between the state of things last year and this year. That def should be happy for.

Sindelar's int was a killer! He might be the long-term solution, but it will be a process.

I love how the defense kept Purdue in the game despite being on the field for what seemed like the entire 3rd quarter. The defense seemed to get stronger in the 2nd half before Wisconsin's last possession.

This Purdue coaching staff is doing great things with players they largely did not recruit to Purdue. Just wait a couple-3 years until they get their guys in place. If they all stay Purdue will be a powerhouse.

It's important that Purdue keeps the entire coaching staff in place. Holt is incredible and the entire defensive coaching staff is top notch. Holt is an offensive guru but he needs weapons and he needs them badly. Got to get some more talent on the offensive line and get some pass rush coming without a blitz.

Meh . . . maybe.

I'm always suspicious of these conversations.

Games don't occur in a vacuum. To see what we saw a few weeks ago, with certain posters blaming a defender for not making a tackle, when the game lasts for 3 1/2 to 4 hours? Doesn't make sense.

Likewise, it's unreasonable to think we have to play flawlessly to beat a top team (nationally). If that happens, don't THEY give away the game?

No, mistakes are a part of life. How you react (and build!) on them is what's key. Both teams made mistakes. UW simply had a larger margin of error.

We'll get there, but for now I'm damn pleased at what I'm seeing (as I know you are).

I don't think you can say they gave away the game.. That's usually reserved for when you're winning and in control of the game, then give away.. Purdue never actually had the lead. They just gave away chances at winning. Overall though, it's awesome that CJB has Purdue in position with DH's recruits to win games like this.

These aren't DJH's recruits. They're our players.

Let's stop with this DJH B-S. He's gone. I love these players.

They're PLAYERS!

Right now I'd say we're a season and a half in front of where I thought we'd be. Most of us said 3-4 wins before the season started. Now we have a realistic shot at a bowl game. We had opportunities today but only if the D scores on the block and the fumble. If that's the only way we win then we didn't give it away. Take a realistic look at the size and quality of players on Wisky's O line and D and we shouldn't have hung in as long as we did. Our day will come but it is a process.

The good thing is that Brohm and his staff don't think like some of the Knuckleheads - he looks at things through the lens of "what will it take to win" instead "why we can't win". This team can go 7-5 or 8-4 this regular season. There isn't a team left on the schedule we can't beat. Iowa is our toughest remaining opponent and they are vulnerable. We have a legit chance to finish second in the division. Wow....

pleased.
some (even here) did not give us much chance, yet we battled and were in a 1 score game in the 4th.

anything can happen was the pre game mantra. unfortunately part of that 'anything' was a hamstring preventing a block/return for TD. I will definitely remember that among the unfortunate history of bad-luck purdue plays

at Iowa looks to be the most challenging remaining. like our chances in nearly all other games

ha i thought almost verbatim

I give you props... iirc preseason you said we would go bowling, I said that was bold but I like it.

now I am wondering which bowl we can end up at :)

I gotta give credit to the Wisconsin QB , he made a couple really good plays. Purdue had their chances, but never came thru. Wisconsin made the plays when needed, same as Michigan did against Purdue.

+ infinity

It’s really is nice for the team to actually look competitive. The mentality is changing and Purdue is fun to fill my Saturdays with again.

I wanted to not get trucked by the Badgers. We didn’t and Chryst knows Purdue will help decide the Division in the future.

What kept Purdue from getting blown out was the 3 TOs that Wisky gave up, particularly one at the 5 yard line.

Given the time of possession and total yardage dominance by the Badgers, it would be more accurate to say Wisconsin almost let the game slip away. Purdue just didn't make enough plays to steal it.

I agree. It's easy to criticize the missed opportunities, especially the missed field goal on a blocked punt and Sindelar's late pick on the Wisconsin 5.

But give the defense some credit here. The final team stats look a lot like another Wisconsin beatdown of Purdue. Yet despite taking lumps and having to play nearly 40 minutes, the defense came up with two huge second-hand turnovers to keep Purdue in it.

Sure, Purdue squandered a late chance, but this thing could have just as easily been closer to 31-9.

thought it was a classy move by Chryst to take a knee w 1:29 left w/ the ball on the 6. I know alot of other coaches who would have jammed it in to make the score look better.

Agree with both of the above.

It was a classy move by Chryst after a hard-fought game. But, it also made a lot of sense given that Wisconsin had already turned it over once inside the 10, and it was still a one possession game with time on the clock.
