Starting lineup (per the stat-tracker link):

Hardin
Terry
Ellis
Layden
Gony

Gony is a bit of a surprise to me. Only averaged 3.7 mpg last season across 12 appearances.

Findlay is in a zone that is giving us looks from deep. Only 3/12 so far I think but Smith's in and her 3 looked very pure. Hopefully the first of many in her career.

Of the new players I really like Oriyomi, Jayla Smith and Jeanae Terry. And of course of the veteran players: Madison Layden, Brooke Moore, and Cassidy Hardin. They really need an infusion of some elite talent though... they need an elite post player, elite point guard, elite shooting guard, and an elite power foward. Hopefully Katie can recruit some top shelf talent in upcoming months. Jayla Smith in my opinion has the look of a very good player and will have a nice career at Purdue. Very nice win today!

Final 89-64 Purdue win.

Layden 22 pts, 9 rebs, and 4 assists in 32 minutes
Hardin 18 pts on 6 3-pointers in 26 minutes
Terry 10 points and 10 boards in 26 minutes
Ellis 7 points and 5 assists in 25 minutes
Kyle had 9 points and 3 rebounds but fouled out in 12 minutes
Moore, Smith, and Oriyomi had 7 points and 3 rebounds each.
Moore led the team with 4 turnovers. 16 total for the team.

Per Tim Newton on radio, Skye Williams has an ankle injury and has not really practiced yet. Makolo also out with ankle injury. Doumbia out due to unspecified condition. Otherwise the other 12 all played to some degree. Obviously Coach was trying different line-up combos to see what worked.

I thought offense looked okay but D certainly needs some work. We were aggressive and sharp in the first half building a 19 pt lead but then just coasted the rest of the way. We do not have much of a post presence. I was impressed with Ellis as point guard. Terry is very aggressive and strong. Hardin was her usual self - streaky as all get out but when she is on she is on. Got more minutes than last year so more points. Moore was solid except for 4 TO’s and Madison is steadily evolving - she will be All Big Ten soon (this year?).

I was disappointed in Kyle. In 12 mins she got 9 pts but only 3 rebounds and then fouled out (yeah, 5 fouls in 12 mins). I sure expected more of her when she came into the program. Maybe KG can get her to improve - it is still early between them.

All good comments.
Lots to work on
—at times showed good D. Quite a bit
—tos mostly later in game
—can’t tell much from
Exhibit game
—loved the O—lots of passes
Abd willing to take open shots and not dribble down the time clock
—tremendous hustle all around
—much more enjoyable vs last year

Nice running summary Mr. TC. Succinct but informative. Sounded like some runs of good play, and some runs of sloppy play. But it’s the first “live action” of the new season, with some new players, new coach, etc. and lots to evaluate and work out some kinks.
Seemed there were several positives to take away from today. I’m Hopeful….
thanks for the nice write up.

That's why I say... Katie needs to recruit an elite post player... And an elite power forward....They just don't have much of a post presence at all on this current roster. Still not much speed either. Kyle to me has been a huge disappointment. She's slow...she's doesn't appear to be in great physical shape, etc. I had the opposite opinion of Ellis than you, she didn't impress me that much. A couple of times she went up for layups and the rim of the basket blocked her shot... happened more than once...I thought Moore is a much better answer at PG, or even Jayla Smith. Jayla Smith will have a nice career at Purdue. And I do like Terry as well... But overall it's Madison Layden and lots of other pieces. This will take a couple of years for Katie to fix and get her players in here. Not expecting anything this season.

Kyle stats besides the fouls in 12 minutes are great, it’s inexcusable to get 5 fouls that quick. She’s still just beginning her second year, hopefully, a light turns on for her, there’s no reason that Gony should be starting over her, that says something.
