My belly tells me that Bobo looks south into the Sunbelt or the AAC for a coach. Identify a caoch and go get him and to hell with the agents and placement firms.

I suspect that if a coach is paying for an agent that the agent is going to be involved and there is no way for Purdue to damn the agent to hell and expect to be successful.

One outside-the-box name to keep in mind if Bobinski does go hunting in the ACC:

Dave Clawson
at Wake Forest. His overall record isn't eye-popping, but he did have some success at BGSU from 2009-2013, and he appears to be turning WF around. After back-to-back 3-9 seasons, the Deaks are 5-2 and boast a nasty defense. WF beat Indiana in Bloomington in September.

Clawson is 49 and in his 17th year as a head coach --- the first 9 at FCS Fordham and Richmond; the last 8 at FBS BGSU and Wake Forest.

Wouldn't be a sexy hire but a damn effective one and one I wouldn't mind seeing. However, he makes $2.3 million at Wake. Not sure starting over from scratch for essentially equal pay would be tempting enough.

Idk if Clawson would leave for Purdue. I think he might be able to get a bigger gig.

Deacs*

Could be true. I like what WF has done defensively this year. Kindof reminds me of Purdue c. 2001-2004. Plus, the little reading I've done about Clawson seems to indicate that he's good at player development --- something that has really regressed under Haze.

Anyway, just another name to consider.

The biggest problem at Wake is that they have nowhere to go on his salary as $2.4 is at their limit. Give the guy $2.5 for three and then a mutual option for another three at $2.75. He'll move for that. Let's see if we mean business on our commitment to football?

Move for $100k more? Doubtful.

He's probably a fit but we'd have to offer a bit more. Sad as it is, we might be better than Wake historically and traditionally....but not by much.

You mean like a Skip Holtz or a young o/c from a SEC school.

Sunbelt is a conference. Arky St., Georgia St. and Georgia So. all have decently thought of coaches. Lots of future SEC coordinators start as coordinators here in this league.

Ya, I'm thinking it's going to take close to $3 million to get an established coach's attention.

$2.2-$2.5 million seems to be about average for mid-level power 5 coaches these days. But, Purdue is a huge rebuild and a major risk right now. It'll probably take more than market average to get an established coach here.

I believe that Bobo's years at Georgia Tech will influence his deccission. He has seen first hand what it takes to run a first class football program. Hopefullly he can educate the Purdue Administration. Faculty members from the general faculty and students dont need to be involved in choosing a coach....so target a guy and go get him.

Huh? In what universe is Georgia Tech a first class football program? I live in Atlanta. It's not....its an afterthought at best. Very much in the same situation Purdue is now.

Their coach, Paul Johnson is very likely to be fired after this year IMO. They have 4 wins right now and realistically might not see another one this year. Bobinski however didn't hire this current coach and really didn't get along with him. Problem there is that Bobinski was criticized by the coach for not being all in on making football a winner. One could argue though by running the triple option at the P5 level, the football team itself wasn't all in to win either. The only good Georgia Tech teams under Johnson were defense first. When they dont have a good D, they dont win more than 6 games.

Why do you keep calling Bobinski a monkey? Bobo is monkey in Spanish. Just curious.

Bobo? Dont know about the monkey thing, but lazy fingers ended up "Bobo." Nothing more, nothing less. My reference to good football programs in the Sunbelt and AAC we motivated by pretty efficient programs in each conference who tend to succeed regularly. Whether Ga Tech is any good or not doesnt mean that MBob doesnt notice how they are doing more with less in the conferences named.

Maybe in a couple of years "Bobo" may be appropriate?

Mono is monkey in spanish. Bobo is Spanish for a fool.

Well, let's all hope indianphil doesn't have any precognitive abilities.
