RIP Coach Mallory.He was a good coach and a fine man.
In an athletic department that has made it's share of mistakes and bone headed moves in my lifetime (and I am being as kind as I can be, just this once) - firing Mallory was imo the stupidest thing they ever did. How they thought they were going to get anyone to do any better I have never been able to fathom. He was a good man and a good coach- better than they deserved, as they made clear in the end.
Even we admired and respected the guy, and that is perhaps the ultimate accolade.

Bill Mallory was as fine an individual as has been. Great coach in a program that wouldn't spend the money to make the program great. He deserved much better than he got from IU. RIP.
