Former 4 Star LB Transfer Offered, Visited

ben holt wasn't really that bad of a LB. it should be noted he was not a first choice. he filled a hole that existed. and he beat somebody else out to start. What does that say about the other talent we had at linebacker when he arrived?

Morally bad, which is this place I think a lot of people go to? No … but for example, KD, who is hardly jawann Bentley, is leaps and bounds superior

Back to Chase…Do we think he’s being recruited to back up/rotate at LEO or get a shot inside (where he played at times in high school)?

Holt was just small. He got to where he needed to be. Just couldnt bring anyone down on first contact.
Yep. Got dragged about 5 yards after contact. Never should have been a middle linebacker at a P5 school.

Nick Holt wanted this kid out of HS. I think we were in his final 2 w/MSU. As a consolation we got a grad transfer whose mother Holt slept with
Do you know why we didn't get Scott Skiles? Keady sent an asst coach to scout him, the AC shacked up with a woman-not-his-wife at a Plymouth IN hotel instead of going to the ball game, then came back to Purdue and told Keady that Skiles was lazy on defense.

Yes, which makes him below average for the big ten more so than KD. I assume all these guys are just as likely to be a great guy as everyone else.

strictly frame of reference .. you have holt… where coaches can target him to overwork nearby defenders as you would in chess. Then KD held his own this year and was an intimidating physical force. The glimpse we got of Wahlberg suggested he may be more like bentley who would obviously be another step up

Id like to see them move Yanni to MLB. Barnes was the mix of size (height aside) and athleticism we should be looking for at the position.

Sounds like the assistant was aggressive on offense.
A friends father in law was being scouted by a big ten school in the late 60s, which he did end up attending and playing very well for. But the coach who went to scout him became the players brother in law in short order… to which the renowned coach told his assistant “I told you to come back with the player not his sister dummy”

Oh if yanni could play in the middle of Graham and Alexander next year, even along with Wahlberg in a platoon that would be amazing

I heard that the player in question had a known addiction at the time!

This is basically true. The coach was Clarence Glover. An asst Keady had brought to PU with him from WKU and Glover actually told Skiles that PU was not interested in him by phone. Keady was never consulted. Skiles goes onto win Mr Basketball that spring and Glover was fired.

Cant confirm the motel incident. But it would have had to be a pretty seedy motel for Plymouth, IN back in 1980, though?

it would be a seedy hotel in 2021 in Plymouth…so you’ve gotta be right about the 1980 guess

Or may be done.

Coaches have to get back down to 85 scholarships this year. Super Seniors are great, but they count now.
Well he’s outstanding.. why don’t they have some kids who just go to school here and never appear in games go as well

C'mon man. Ben Holt was not a B10 caliber LB. He was about 5'10, 210 and couldn't get off the block.
He made a lot of tackles but 80% of them were 5 yards past the line of scrimmage and then he was dragged for another 4 yards.

That's gotta be a tough call.
Do you give a spot to a guy who will only be around for one more year but is a proven impact player. Or a guy who is going to be around for 2-3 more years and has potential but has yet to prove it on Saturday.

Thanks NCAA for creating this unnecessary mess. A 90 scholarship limit for next year would have smoothed over the transition back to 85 quite a bit.

Some schools may not have wanted another year of increased schollies. What is the carrying cost for each 1?

We have a senior I’ve seen once on a kickoff
