I've watched PU for years...and my question is this:

I don't remember every hearing Purdue fans boo their team or their coach. Has there ever been a time it got so bad that happened?

There's been some jeers at individual lazy plays (i.e. not hustling for a loose ball in a bad game) and maybe some sparse booing going into halftime of a poor effort, but I don't remember rampant booing. And it's typically regarding a lack of effort/laziness against a bad opponent more so than overall play/course of the program.

I have followed Purdue b'ball since Rick Mount's days and I don't remember any outright booing of our teams, but I do remember a game against Ohio State my senior year in 1978 when the home crowd applauded OSU for their performance at Mackey. Purdue was a heavy favorite and were pre-season contenders for the B1G championship with Walter Jordan, Wayne Walls, Eugene Parker et. al. and OSU came in with a very young and underdog team that included Kelvin Ransey, Herb Williams, Jim Smith, Mike Cline (Ryan's dad I assume) and outhustled and outperformed us all night only to see us pull out a 2 point win at the end. I think Purdue's crowd appreciated the effort from the Buckeyes that night and were growing tired of Purdue's lackadaisical play that year. That team totally underperformed and lost their last 2 against Northwestern and Illinois on the road to finish 16-11 overall and 11-7 in the B1G. That was also Fred Schaus's last year as coach IIRC. Ohio State blew us out in Columbus about 2 weeks later.

I'll need some help, but, yeah it happened. Keady put a kid in and the Bronx cheer rained down from Mackey Arena. Gene was so pissed he spent the whole post game presser ripping the crowd for booing a Purdue kid. He even threatened to quit on the spot. I also remember people being pretty hard on Trice when he was there....

You are correct. It was a shameful moment for Boiler fans. Seemed more like the fanbase in bloomington.

I was at the Purdue vs.Minnesota football game in 1990 and the fans booed at the end of the game as Purdue got beat by an average Gopher team. You should be grateful if you didn't see the Fred Akers years.I try to forget them.

I could be wrong but I listened to the Gardner Webb game on the radio and I believe I heard booing in that game. Understandable though.

I remember the Paint Crew, which I was a part of at the time, booing completely through a timeout.

But it was booing the officiating and not a player.

I don't know if I'd call it booing but it seems there were games when everyone would groan whenever Bade had a turnover.

I've never seen it in basketball, but football is another story.

My day's with Coletto were filled with booing that team, especially the coach...

Victory Garden FTW!

Some of us quickly forget how Terone Johnson would occasionally get booed because of his FT shooting struggles. I noticed it the most last season, but I think it occasionally happened his sophomore and junior seasons as well.
