Some quick Purdue recruiting notes as signing day approaches
Boilermaker defensive line coach Rubin Carter is slated to be in West Bloomfield, Mich., Tuesday to see defensive tackle commitment Eddy Wilson, who has suddenly become a very popular man.
Since he flipped from Bowling Green to Purdue during his visit to West Lafayette last weekend, Wilson has drawn a flood of interest. Pittsburgh and Iowa offered him shortly after the Purdue commitment. A Vanderbilt offer, he said, might be forthcoming.
Iowa, Pitt, Vandy, Michigan and Michigan State, Wilson said Monday night, are all scheduled to come see him this week, so Purdue is going to have to fight to keep its lone defensive tackle commitment.
Darrell Hazell made his in-home visit with Wilson early last week.
It bears noting that Pitt and/or Iowa would likely happily have hosted him for an official visit this past weekend, but Wilson did not take one.
He remains "undecided," he said, about whether he'll take a visit this weekend.
Signing day is next Wednesday.
Wilson might not be Purdue's only 11th-hour retention case.
Defensive end Chazmyn Turner has been unreachable for us lately, but we do know West Virginia would like to get him in for an official visit this weekend, with an offer possibly to come if he does visit.
Purdue will have a coach, or coaches, in Nashville tomorrow to see running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn, who isn't certain who from Purdue is coming.
Vaughn said Hazell made his in-home visit "a while ago," so Purdue has already fired its silver bullet there. Head coaches can only make one such visit per prospect.
Tennessee's Mr. Football is down to Purdue, Illinois and West Virginia. He visited Purdue in-season, Illinois this past weekend and will be in Morgantown starting Friday.
Vaughn confirmed he will still visit WVU.
Purdue is not done recruiting the offensive line apparently.
This weekend, it hosted Arizona's Davis Perrott, a Washington State commitment.
GoldandBlack.com should have more on Perrott to come.
But the Boilermakers also remain involved with Tulane tackle commitment Keyshawn Mcleod, a potential last-weekend visitor for the Boilermakers.
Hazell and OC John Shoo were in the Dallas area Monday night, where they did home visits with safety commit Jess Trussell.
Defensive tackle target Kevin Scott tweeted Monday night a top five of Mississippi, Miami (Fla.), Purdue, San Diego State and USC, in no particular order.
Scott visited Purdue last weekend.
