Fleck

Fascinating.

Great thread.

Do you have anything solid, or a trustworthy link, or some corroborating tweets, or a blood signed contract, or any real info whatsoever to back this up, or did your big brain think of this all on it's own??

I do have some inside dope from an Indy TV station.

No,No,No....Fleck is just Hazell 2.0. At best, he'd be a 4-6 win B10 coach. If it came down to Fleck or Sprack....Sprack would be the better option.

I think you are right, not that I have any real inside info, but it's just to quite at this point. Pretty much like interviewing is done, coach lined up and just waiting to announce because there is nothing else to do at this point. There's been no new rumors or anything that I can see on Twitter or anywhere else I look for several days. Everyone just seems to be sitting pat and waiting at this point and you wouldn't be doing that if you didn't have it done.

Just when we thought the board couldn't get dumber... you show back up!

What makes Fleck any better than Hazell?? He just another MAC coach that's had one good season..that's it..nothing more..just like Hazell. Say what you want, but Purdue will never compete for a B10 championship as long as OSU Michigan,Wisconsin & Penn State are in the mix. The ceiling at Purdue is 6-8 wins,in a "great" year. Fleck knows that and will wait for a better opportunity. If there isn't one, he'll stay at WMU for another year...in any case, he's NOT coming to Purdue.

I don't believe this big time P5 market exists for Fleck. Good grief Oregon isn't going to even sniff at a Fleck.

Not a good comparison. Oregon will hire at a different level than we will. Accept it.

If north carolina opens up, you can bet Fleck will be a candidate.

It's almost certainly not done yet. The wait is for the season to end so they can talk directly with guys like Brohm and Fleck.

1. As long as Purdue remains in the west division of B1G, it can compete for a conference championship, provided we get the ideal HC.
2. Despite his age, Fleck has a proven track record in comparison to Hazell.
3. Fleck can RECRUIT (#33WMU vs #70PU on Scout) and will get the Chicago area guys that Hope/Hazell era failed to attract
4. Finally,I doubt he (Fleck) goes to OR or Houston as long as his kids still reside with ex in KAZOO. He either comes to PU or stays at WMU with a sweetened package until a job like MSU, ND or perhaps NFL opens up. This guy is a hot commodity. Its now or never MBOB

The issue here is the way Rivals rates their classes. The take the total number and don't cap it so WMU obviously ranks very highly with a class of 23 and ranked 47th while TCU has 9 recruits and ranks 54th. Purdue is currently ranked 67th with 14 recruits but also has one more 3 star recruit (10) than WMU does (9).

It is more about volume than quality...although with Fleck's success it appears he has an ability to locate talent that may have been overlooked and has an ability to coach them up. I would say given the increase in funding and increase in resources, Fleck should be able to turn in classes ranked between 30 and 40...that would go a long way to improvement in the program.

My red flag would be if Fleck isn't able to bring any of his staff with him from WMU. That is what happened to Tim Beckman at Illinois and a lot of his staff stayed behind with the OC that was named HC. That was a major red flag for Beckman and Illinois.

Rivals changed it a while back. They take the top 20 players in the class.

No idea how scout does it anymore

Who is Sprack? Geesh. Larry Fedora going from North Carolina to Baylor seems like a sideways move at best to me. Apparently he's coached there before, but UNC seems like a better gig.

Supposedly, his ex and kids are in St Louis. There were rumbling of Missouri opening up at one time so I could see interest in going there as it would be closer.

Supposedly he wants to stay in the midwest to stay closer, which is why I've never quite got the UNC rumblings, not that it appears to be opening.

Thank you for the correction! Although, I don't think it really changes much given that of the programs ahead of WMU currently, only 16 of them have 20 or more. That means more than half of the teams ahead of the rankings are missing points...so as much as 10 players missing from the points system (UCLA). If the new coach can come in and fill the gaps in the class with more 3 star players, Purdue would arguably be way ahead of WMU (UVA has 20 recruits..of which 13 are 3 star and the rest 2 stars...they are currently 39th. If a coach could come in and get 5 to 6 three star recruits, Purdue could be looking at a top 40 national recruiting ranking...and that is something that the new coach can totally build on.
