Fire captain turtleneck now!

I'm not a football guy, but I know the players because I'm in Mollenkopf off and on. I don't have the person to find ... but if this season is to have any good come of it and if recruiting for next year needs to be good/great, then DH must be removed now. The new AD must make a statement that he fkg cares! The longer this goes on, the less he shows he cares and the less chance we have of recruiting anyone who should be a B1G player. I honestly believe that replacing DH with almost anyone not on the current staff will at least show the NEW attitude and approach. Which must be done now.

There is nothing else that needs to be seen here. DH needs to be fired today. Very few, if any Power Conference schools would put up with this horrific football team performance over the last 3+ years. Coach had his chance.

Can't fire him now, but when we hit 7 losses he should be gone. Only 7 more weeks. Haha

Why, because there's no one to replace him? A message must be sent to the present players and to future recruits .... if we wait 7 weeks, that message will not be valid. It MUST be sent ... otherwise, it will cost us at least three years. It may not save those years, but it is the only chance we have to save them.

Our current players will not play hard for him ... if they don't play hard for 7 more games, then they won't represent us well for potential recruits ... how can they? HOPE must be instilled and the fact that Purdue Univ CARES about football must be shown ... nothing else will help us this year or with recruiting. Enough is enough and every player and potential recruit knows it.

I doesn't matter if the current players play hard or not because Hazell has not recruited players capable of playing at the B10 level. I suspect they're playing as hard now as they're going to play.

I agree with the first sentence .... I disagree, based on talking with them, with the second sentence. The very sad part is that I don't blame them. Imagine what they say to potential recruits.

Why can't we fire him right now?
Doesn't really do much. Say we hired Briles...he wouldn't want to mix in with this staff. He could recruit for us now but is removed from what this staff has installed. He'd want o bring in his own guys and system. We want him to bring in his own guys and system.

Firing him now is silly. Like I said, as soon as a bowl isn't possible...that's the right time to send the message. Could energize the team....but honestly...what's going to change? Same players. Same scheme.

he could recruit for us now- that's reason enough right there.

"Briles has been exclusively from Texas.
Can he translate that to Indiana success ?"

Well....Akers did (eyes rolling).

I worry about Briles because his recruiting success was so heavily relationship based and built over 30 years of success at multiple levels of Texas.

How do you think those relationships are right now? Probably pretty strained....

I think he come in and immediately make our offense better. That said, Baylors D really always sucked and I don't think we have the talent here yet to flat out score people. Then, if his recruiting is shot because people don't want to play for a guy with his legacy...we wouldn't be getting any better.

I would wait until after the Nevada game. He'll have 2 weeks to prepare. If he loses to Nevada, we're looking at a 2-3 win season at best and he should be shown the door after the game.
At least the players, alumni, fans, recruits and coaches will know mediocrity will now longer be tolerated. The AD needs to send this message loud and clear.

He won't be fired until sometime in November. Teams don't fire coaches hardly ever before then, even if they deserve it.

You're right, coaches that haven't won alot of games over 3+ seasons don't fire coaches before November.....however, a coach that's only won 7 games over 3+ seasons, doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
NOBODY would care if he got fired...not the players, fans or recruits. If he loses in 2 weeks, there's no rational reason he should be kept on as coach.

I don't disagree he should be canned...

Let's be honest though, we aren't really trailblazers or renegades when it comes to football decision making. He shouldn't of been given year 4, but was to let a new AD hire a coach. He shouldn't be given week 4, but will be because conventional wisdom and history say don't fire your coach in September / October.
