EVANSTON, Ill. — A few final musings from Purdue's 70-64 win at Northwestern, because I know how you like musings.
• Again, Purdue's defensive energy to start this game was the story of the night, I think. Great sign for them and something they need to really grasp the importance of, because it can change things for them moving forward.
• Quietly, another fine game from Ethan Morton, who was good at both ends of the floor.
• Gotta give Zach Edey credit for playing like 16 straight minutes. My god, can you imagine?
I'm glad I didn't scrap that catch-and-shoot story today, but it was really relevant tonight.
• If someone can explain to me why Northwestern uses Pete Nance so little, I'm all ears. Guy should be having offense run through him and getting 12-15 shots every game. They're wasting one of the most gifted players that program will ever have.
• Purdue's gotten the help it needed in the Big Ten race, from Rutgers. Now it just has to be really good this weekend to make sure that Rutgers doesn't pass them instead of helping them.
• This screen-cap after Trevion Williams' put-back dunk is the best ...
• Just a hell of a turnout by Purdue people, who turned this into a home game for the Boilermakers and saw the best rendition of the National Anthem of the season.
• I'll bet these past two games have really eaten at Jaden Ivey. His play, I mean, not the outcomes. Has to handle these struggles well. That was a challenge for him last season before he blew up.
• Big day for me tomorrow again hanging around a hotel for a day because of weather. Payback for last year. I've never been the same since flying off I-65 years ago after going to watch Patrick Bade play after Purdue played in Indy.
Thanks for reading, everybody, and have a good night.
