Final ESPN class rankings has Carson Edwards.....

Sounds about right. Really close to where RJ and Scott were if I recall correctly. Certainly doesn't mean he has to finish like they did at Purdue. If he can come in and win the starting PG spot from day 1, this team could be pretty good. If he is coming off the bench (and thus PJ is our best option), I think we take a few steps back from this year considering what we lost on the defensive end and all around from AJH.

Maybe, but it might not be as much of a drop-off on D as expected if there are established defensive players added (via transfer). There are still options (grad transfers, HS de-commits, JC transfers, etc.) Offensively, I think they will be more skilled with the addition of CE (plus whoever else) enhancing the guard play and of course the expectation of returnees improving.

I don't think it matters who we add at this point, we almost certainly won't be better on D losing the 2 reigning DPOY's in the B1G. Haas is a pretty big drop off from AJH defensively, and I'm not sure who on our roster is close to RD on the perimeter. Offense certainly could be better, so hopefully that makes up for it.

I think Carsen could be a really critical player for us, but not for the obvious reasons. I think he could finally be the lead guard that combines talent and Bball IQ and is highly successful within Painter's motion offense. Many have tried and failed and it has created the perception that PGs cannot flourish in this offense. I heard a podcast today where CJ Walker said as much and pointed to our "structure" as the reason for his decommitment. Carsen could be the guy to disprove that theory. Picture Lewjack, only bigger and with an outside shot. I know Painter wants his lead guards to run the offense and play defense, but I believe he would adjust to the skillset of a true play making PG.

I think you just mentioned the key to the season. The offense should, and has to, get better to make up for the loss of two excellent defenders. I think that the shooters, DM, RC, VE get older and better. If PJ can become more clutch with his shooting and CE can contribute as well this could be a tremendous shooting team. Add that to an incredibly efficient offensive player in Haas and hopefully get some athleticism relative to their positions in Taylor and Smotherman, and this could be a high scoring team. That's my rosie perspective. Bring on the derision.

A bigger LJ with a shot? Hope you're right because he would be an all-american type.

I hope you're right, and particularly about the shooters. I remember being a tad disappointed at KS shooting in the 30's his frosh year and thinking he would get so much better. Hope DM and RC become lethal from 3 and if VE can, he probably won't be back for his season year.

Purdue is due to strike gold in a play making guard in an unexpected way. I'm hoping CE could be that guy.

I love Ray, but he wasn't as good on D this past season as he was as a junior, especially after the knee injury and late in the season. No one has mentioned Johnny Hill. For the third season in a row, a transfer led the team in steals (Sterling Carter, Jon Octeus, Johnny Hill).

Vince was trending that way late in the season if memory is any good.

I like your points but I'm not thinking hill is a big loss.

Yep, he and AJH were the top two 3PT shooters (percentage-wise) this past season. VE really tried to be the go-to-non-post scorer in the final few games and he probably shot it and turned it over a tiny bit more than he should have (less assists as well), but I still believe it was good for him to really assert himself in that way. He's a threat in so many ways offensively (can play 2 through 4 on offense; maybe 1 if he can get lower to ground and tighten up handles) and if his D improves, he will lead the team in minutes played next season.

Do you have a link to that podcast? I'm interested in hearing his interview. I would appreciate it.
