In my uniform stats thread someone mentioned field surface and I didn't track it because I assumed that it would be hard to find. As it turns out every Wikipedia page has a complete history on each stadium's field turf, even obscure stadiums like Rice Stadium that we've played at recently. So I grabbed that data.
I only have the last five years entered so far (I do this mostly by hand right now, haven't made a scraper yet) and only included away games (and neutral sites) so grass doesn't get our home field advantage:
Grass: 1-7 (12.5%)
FieldTurf: 5-13 (27.8%)
UBU Sports Speed: 0-1 (0%)
If you include our home games, "grass" jumps up to 16-27 (37.2%).
There really isn't anything interesting here since we've been so bad lately. FieldTurf being "better" for us has more to do with Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana using FieldTurf rather than us having some kind of advantage. But someone asked, so here it is. (BTW, Cincinnati is who uses whatever "UBU Sports" is.)
And for what it's worth, I'm not sitting around tallying wins and losses for obscure stats like this, haha. I'm building up a database of Purdue game stats and am including weird factors like uniform combos, weather, attendance, etc. to just see what happens. I just type up a line of code and it spits out the results.
