Do we have a good kicker coming in next year? I love this team but our field goal kicking is terrible. That was an ugly field goal try that wasn't even close.

Pretty sure Evans is not 100% based on his shorter than normal kickoffs.

I was wondering about that as well. Evans was known for his long kick-offs, and being able to kick that 70 yard Fg in practice. Yet, his kick-offs didn't make it into the end zone against a team that had a kick-off return threat.. That being said, his kicks had a lot of height, and our special teams players were awesome in their pursuit.

Maybe wind was a factor? Or that was the game plan. They did pin inside the 20 once or twice.

I believe it was either injury related or the game plan. Our special teams arrived at almost the same time the ball arrived, and we did pin them inside the 20 several times.

as for the wind, the Arizona kicker kicked it into the end zone on almost every attempt.

special teams coverage and tackling is night and day better under this staff.

Well our kicking has been terrible all year. Really the one true crappy thing I can say about this years team. Other than that I am very happy with how the team turned out. Hopefully next year it will get solved.

I was screaming for Evans - Dellinger is terrible......don't know why Evans wasn't in
Evans has been injured. I know he was still doing the kick-offs but not with his normal distance. He also had a mid-range field goal. But, the kick you were referencing I believe was 40yrds.+. Just a thought. Norm

Evans was injured during the IU game while making a tackle (sprained knee ligament) and appeared to be not 100%....but likely will be fine when spring ball starts up. Likely things remain the same unless one of the two win the job hands down. Neither did anything to separate themselves in fall camp or during the season but likely that happens with spring and fall camp before the 2018 season.

Neither is terrible, as a whole they were about average. Being redundant at the kicker position seems like a bit of a strain on the scholarship situation, though. If Dellinger left to pursue a full time kicking position somewhere else, perhaps Bravo or Homan could be a serviceable backup to Evans and Brohm/Levine could snag a new kicker for 2019.

Dellinger isn't terrible.

If I'm reading the media guide correctly, making 19 of 27 career FGAs puts J.D. at #2 on Purdue's career accuracy list (min 15 FGA).

Admittedly, Purdue's FG kicking history isn't great. Purdue's most accurate kicker (Wiggs) ranks 229 on sports-reference's career FG% list.

I had expected when Evans came to Purdue he would handle the kick-offs and the longer Fgs, and Dellinger would handle the extra points and shorter Fgs. That was clearly not the case.

It does place a burden on our scholarship situation having 2 kickers and 1 punter on scholarship, when some schools have all their kickers as walk-ons.

Wiggs and Dorsch were relatively solid, but obviously kicker hasn't been a strength for most of the last two decades.

I double checked his stats and they actually are pretty good overall. Its beyond the 40 yard line that needs to improve if Dellinger wants to be a weapon for Purdue's offense next year.

Please, don't interfere with people's opinions with facts!

I have no problem with either kicker! I just don't believe it's an efficient use of scholarships to have two kickers on scholarship. I also don't like the alternating kicker approach we used this past year.

Maybe it wasn't all their fault with the alternating kickers. Something needs to be done about it though. Missed a lot of field goals that should have been made. I believe we missed some extra points too. May be wrong about that.

Evans missed several extra points, but the stats won't reflect all his misses because on several misses a penalty occurred, and he received a do-over mulligan and made it the second time.
