For the overall food category, that's the highest increase since May of 1979, but for the food-at-home category, which is household groceries, it's the highest since March of 1979, according to Steve Reed, an economist at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

There are several indexes that measure inflation - CPI is probably the most widely used and known. CPI was flat for the past month reported - meaning it's 8.5% over June 2021 on an annual basis.
The other indexes are:
PPI - Producers Price Index which measures inflation in the production step - it's up 1.1% in June.
ECI is a quarterly stat - Employment Cost Index which measures inflation for labor - compensation costs are up 1.4% over the prior quarter for civilian and private workers. Benefits are up 1.8%
IPP - International Price Program measures inflation for imports and exports. Imports up +0.2% and Exports up 0.7% in latest month.
GDP Deflator - measures inflation experienced by consumers, government, and institutions providing goods and services made in the US for consumers anywhere - it's a quarterly number and gets revised each month. The latest report shows Q2 2022 +8.9 (advanced). Q1 2022 was 8.5% (3rd revision). These are annualized percentage numbers.
You can find the reports for the various inflation stats on the BLS gov site. The GDP deflator is on the BEA gov site.
