Exactly as I feared

We are not matched up with them at all. I was concerned who was gonna guard Wagner when he's around the perimeter and ready to shoot, our guys are not matched up with that. Wagner is a typical European big guy, stays outside and shoot, our big guy is typical American style center so he is definitely not capable of guarding Wagner. I was hoping Biggie guarding Wagner when he and Haas on the court together but it still turned out Haas guarding Wagner. And Haas is not good on the outside, he is built to be the center of the center. Our two bigs are not athletic enough, Wagner and Willson are skinny and mobile and Wagner can shoot. His skill is rare in American basketball world. Wagner stays on the outside will mess up the visiting team's lineup. PJ and Walton are not matched up either, but not as serious as Wagner matching up with our big guys.

We will always struggle going against teams with fairly athletic big men who play away from the basket. Biggie doesn't have the length and tries to stay out of foul trouble. Haas just can't keep up with those type of players. This is why we really miss Taylor and why our back to the basket center style of play can put us in trouble against some opponents.

I didn't think it would be that bad, but I wasn't surprised by the barrage of Michigan 3s.

If Haarms can play this season, he will be matched up with Wagner and Haarms can shoot as good as Wagner. I don't think what Painter wants to do right now to build Haarms into a 5 is a good thing, his skills are rare in NCAA. If you checked out 2014 and 2015 Euro U18 stats you will find out that Wagner and Haarms pretty much matched up based on their skill set and Haarms is taller than Wagner, so he will be able to block Wagner. But it was not going to happen this afternoon. Haas matching up with Wagner is just a nightmare, he's too slow and when Wagner moves our lineup will be forced to chance and the next one guarding Wagner is not big enough.

I'm hoping they are just working on Haarms post game to toughen him up and get used to guarding other big men in the paint. I completely agree that he should be more in the mold of Wagner though and that is his game. Trying to force him into being a traditional post player because he is over 7 feet tall is a mistake and eliminates the huge mismatch he will be for teams trying to cover him away from the basket. It's why I could see him more as a stretch 4 man with Haas and Taylor at the 5.

"WHY" do you think Matt is trying to make Haam's into into the version of a 5 you think? I see no indication of that at all..course I'm not at practice. If Haams was going to be a 5 as you think ..why would Matt be chasing real 5's for 2017? I agree...offensively Haams has some skills on the perimeter

Cause I watched them practice. Haarms is only working on low post right now.

except his first 3 buckets were layups right through by and around biggie.

Yes, but he is there to help the team at this time...he is not playing. I really, really doubt that Matt puts him on the blocks and plays like Haas. Matt will practice him inside to develop him for the inside and perimeter game...I'm sure. Haams is there this year to help the team ...more than to project where he will play. Haams needs to learn to play inside, just like Cline needs to score off the bounce...and so forth. The more versatile the more ways you can be used. I could be wrong...but will really be surprised if Matt was to play him like Haas and think what you are seeing today is for today. ideally, I'm sure Matt wants bigs that can play outside, drive the ball and post...

Now Haams may have be projected to do both like Biggie...but Matt is not going to take away his outside shooting thinking this beanpole is ready to battle exclusively inside.
