Purdue still starts 4 seniors next season and their sixth man will also be a senior

Haas
Vince
Dakota
Carsen
PJ

Sixth man Basil
Cline junior
Taylor Junior

Thats a pretty exciting thing to think about for the future, teams with that type of talent + experience generally have trekendous seasons and are ready for big runs in March

If Swanigan DOES happen to come back? Purdue will be absolutely LOADED

Dont get me wrong Im very excited for this season but just happened to think about next season too and the possibility of a HUGE 2017-2018 for Purdue is exciting.

CS will surprise me if he returns after this year. The guy loves to rebound and pass and is great at both....two things a team of NBA stars should love in a teammate.

I am excited not by a loaded team...but how a team plays, loaded or not....and the play of these guys right now, is superb (other than turnovers).

I really like Haarms. I think he is way under rated as he has all the tools and 7' 2". Frank Kaminski 2. With a better outside shot.
Get Epperson and even if Biggie goes pro (pretty much a certainty) Purdue will be fine.

Can Haarms handle the ball and have the agile moves Kaminski had? That is what made him special the mobility and smoothness of a 2 guard in a 7' frame. I will be surprised in Haams if he is that good....I have not seen him or videos on him... so I am just asking really.

If Biggie leaves, I think what we lose from him (which would be a lot) would be mostly offset by the influx of athleticism coming at the 1-4 positions with the addition of Eastern, Ewing, and Wheeler. That is a dimension this team is lacking.

If he does come back, wow, yeah the team would be loaded and deep at every position.

From the videos I have seen Yes.
And he can knock down the three. Needs to bulk up but what BIG incoming freshman doesn't.
Looks very agile, athletic. He looks the part of a big wing or stretch four to me.
More of the reason we need Epperson at the five.
Obviously videos don't tell all but I was extremely impressed.

Won't know till we see him but even then I encourage withholding judgement as it took Kaminsky till his junior year to be what we remember.
Speculating Haarms from video (what could go wrong with that), he looks like he is extremely skilled on the perimeter, is agile, and can dribble. I am guessing he will need a lot of work to be anywhere near as good as FK in the post.

Thanks Tj for posting the video.
Of course he is no Kaminski now. But I see a bunch of similarities and potential.

Has anyone heard anything about Haarms at Sunrise Christian? I thought I read that their post-grad prep team is one of the best in the country, but I can't find any information regarding the team or Haarms.

Someone (on here, no inside knowledge) has suggested that Basil might want to take his option as a grad transfer and play his last year elsewhere as a starter. Hopefully this season and the outlook for next are successful and exciting enough for him to want to stick around.

We will miss Biggie's bulk and ferocity inside, given he goes -- which seems almost foregone. We'll miss Spike but losing him shouldn't be too catastrophic.

Love the kids we're adding. Eastern looks most ready to play D1 now. I would love if Wheeler, Haarms and Ewing also developed quickly, but we may need to be more patient.

Taylor has been our injury-riddled wild card for how long? Love his attitude and potential, but ...

I wouldn't bank on him. Yet.

Haarms is not listed on the roster. Thought he was a senior for 2015-2016. I posted the question in another thread. There is some info for AAU. Think he played for Chauncey Billups team earlier this yr. He only avg something like 4/4. Did not do much with the Euro team either.

I believe Haarms is no longer playing at Sunrise Christian prep school because of concerns about future eligibility at the collegiate level -- given his previous time playing in Europe. I have heard he may enroll at Purdue during the winter session but not join the team until the 2017-2018 season. I watched the Sunrise Christian team in a prep school tournament recently and he did not travel with them. He will more than likely get a head start on gaining strength and familiarity with a U.S. college campus by enrolling at Purdue for the Spring 2017 session.

If this is the case, could he then participate with the team in "walk-on" status? I like this idea but fear it would ruin one of his years of eligibility. Hate to see almost a year go by and he not play competitively.

Thanks for the heads up. I did some research on him the other day and found nothing online.

Haarms needs a lot of work, IMO, to be a true solid contributor. Does he show lots of promise? Of course, but let's not rush the judgement on his ability at Purdue. He would have a hard time defending on the wing and would get really pushed around in the post against most B1G centers. As another poster mentioned, he may enroll at Purdue mid-year and sit out. If that is the case, he might get the benefit of using the weight room and a meal plan...but he won't get the use of the training table, which is what is really beneficial to the athletes. The big key is getting Taylor fully healthy and able to contribute next season to spell Haas. However, I think next season Purdue could look much more like Louisville when Haas is out by subbing in Smotherman, Eastern, and Ewing to go for a very long and athletic look:
Nojel Eastern 6'5
Carsen Edwards 6'0
Vince Edwards 6'8
Basil Smotherman 6'8
Eden Ewing 6'8.5

I too will be surprised if Swanigan returns (barring an injury or something unforeseen), but much less so because of what GMs see in him, and more so about his own personal desire. It was far from a slam dunk that he choose to come back for this year, and that was without him hearing much (if any) 1st round talk from NBA camps. He actually reminds me a little of the Vonleh kid at IU a couple years ago. Shows up, works his ass off, kind of quiet, minds his own business, and focused on getting better on the court... but not a guy appearing to really embrace the college life, environment, etc. Just one man's opinion.

He won't be leaving unless he can fix his turnover problem. He also has to show he can hit jumpers and threes. He is dominant at the collegiate level, but he needs to address those glaring issues if he wants to get drafted in a very deep class. At the beginning of the year I was 100% confident he is gone. Right now, I think it's about a 50/50 shot. If he can go the rest of the season without another 6+ turnover game, those numbers drastically go up. He can't have half of the teams turnovers in a single game!

I am pretty sure, up to this point, Biggie has clearly shown his improvement in his jumper and three point shot. His issue, as you pointed out, is his TO problems...and he self addressed that after the last game WHILE giving praise to Vince to cutting his down. I think Biggie enjoys the college life more than most would expect because he is just a quiet and low key kind of guy as one poster mentioned Biggie doesn't appear to be about the college life. Now, he never struck me as a Kyle Orton type of college guy who wants to hit Harry's after the game ASAP to stand on the bar with a bottle of Jack Daniels (saw it happen myself) but I think he enjoys being at Purdue. Sort of reminds me of a little more tame Shaq. If you didn't follow his Twitter posts over the summer that poked fun at his teammates and coaches, you missed some gems.

Still not convinced Swanigan will be projected as a first round draft pick. Maybe that won't matter to him though.

If I were him, I'd come back and try to finish my degree and go out with a bang next year with what looks like a very strong supporting cast that could be a preseason top 10 type team if everyone comes back. If he's a first-rounder it's a no-brainer to go. If he's not, I'd probably come back. That said, I don't know his situation either. I just know that if he can complete his degree in 3 years that adds extra value if/when basketball doesn't pay the bills any longer. If he knows he can get a gig overseas paying 80-100k a year as the worst-case scenario and he needs the money then he might not care about anything else.
