ESPNs Winners and Losers from nba departures

Purdue in the losers category. Says we are a fringe top 25 team.
Garbage and as always they don't see the big picture......

Yes we lose Biggie but him going Pro will actually help with recruiting and as a team with Taylor healthy, Haarms with a practice season under his belt and Ewing coming in as an experienced player, we wont miss a beat.

The athletic gain by just having Taylor healthy will be amazing....add Ewing, Wheeler, Eastern athletic ability, Haarms length and another season under Boogie (C. Edwards) added to the Seniors and Clines dead eye shooting and all around improved game.......

Purdue will be pre season top 25 and IMO be in top 15 all year.

Boiler Up and quit reading ESPN anything.....garbage.

Loss as in rebounding and I feel Swanigan was a leader by his example of desire to get better and give 100% everyday.

Not as much as you think...the two headed monster of Taylor and Ewing will pick up 85% of that and Dakota will always be around the ball like he was last year.

Give Boogie a year under his belt to rotate down more for rebounds and bigger guards in Eastern and Cline...I think we will have it covered.

The effort part, you have to figure the seniors took notice of Biggies effort put forward and I think Taylor and Edwards carry that torch forward by showing by example and hard effort.

My biggest fear are the practices......some talented young men going at it and I just hope the family bond ight as it has been and they all work together as a team to do great things!

Next year to me is so exciting....Taylor is back and will show out...Ewing is a blue collar beast and can't wait to see effort and Wheeler and Eastern are so athletic......Haarms will shine too.....and the growth of Boogie will be awesome.

We should be top 15 all year.......everyone better take notice Purdue is coming for ya!

It's okay if we don't replace his productivity-the guy was an All American and put up numbers that haven't been done since T Duncan at Wake Forest...:)
Ewing is a Juco, and Taylor has been injured each year. There is a bit of an unknown there. I would expect VE. Boogie and Haas to all pick up from last year

I can see that as a possibility. Certainly there were several games Biggie won for us - we will see if the newbies can do the same??? I will at least agree that is a big question mark.

However, I agree with above - experience makes us solid for 2017. But until I see the newbies production - for me that is 3rd in the B1G at best.

Will we see Eastern at SF and Vincent at PF? Rebounding will be an issue though but Eastern may be too good to keep on the bench.

I don't think ESPN projection is all that unreasonable. Purdue was somewhere between a top 15-25 team last year, with a pretty dominate go-to player in CS. Generally, it's hard to be much better than a top 20 team without at least 1 really good player to lean on that can dictate a game on one end of the floor or other. Purdue just lost the only player that fit that category and you're objecting to the idea that maybe 5-10 teams in all of D1 move up and surpass Purdue to start out the season rankings?

Doesn't matter where we start, it matters where we finish. Look at IU this past season top ranked to NIT and frankly I'd rather start at 25 without Biggie and work our way up. Might take some pressure off the team (in theory) while new rotations and such are worked out.

It might be a bit bumpy to start next season, but by the end I think we'll still be sitting at another 20 win season and trip to the NCAA.

I actually think it does matter where you start. Not as much as where you finish but if you start off ranked you get the benefit of the doubt more often than teams expected to be middle of the road or poor. It's much harder to move into the top 10 or 15 starting out unranked compared to being in the top 25. We won't get treatment like Duke and MSU do when they lose and don't hardly drop and shoot up the rankings after a single big win but there is an advantage perception wise as well as the end of the year when it comes time to select seeds.

I don't think you can really call Purdue a loser in terms of NBA draft decisions. I would say Purdue broke even, especially since what happened is what almost everyone expected would happen.

Had Biggie stayed Purdue would be one of the biggest winners.
Losing either Vince or Isaac would have made Purdue a loser.

I don't know, maybe the article was never intended to be more than click bate.

What was ESPN supposed to say? That Purdue was a big winner after losing Biggie? You have black and white you have one or the other.

As mentioned in many other threads, Purdue playing this summer overseas, for 2-3 weeks, I think will really help with playing time for the newbies, returning players learning to play without Biggie, and just the overall experience of being with your teammates for that length of time. It should give the Boilers a great head start too the season, maybe the only negative will be the food too some. lol

Further to your point, when teams in your conf are ranked high, when you lose to them you drop less and when you win you get lots of credit. See the "ACC effect" last year (they should start calling it that).

I would also add how many times do we hear during the year about a team playing to their potential(preseason expectations/ranking) and moving up in the rankings or maintaining a rank thanks to short stretches of positive play? Better to be overrated compared to underrated especially when it comes to any sort of post season seeding.
