ESPNs way too early…

1. Houston
2. Purdue
3. Louisville
4. UConn
5. Michigan

My apologies to SaratogaBoiler who mentioned this earlier in a different thread. I just thought it deserved a thread of its own.
Way too early because transfer portal still open and top players will be going to the NBA.

My gut says both UConn and Purdue will bounce back in a serious way. Houston just reloads.

Not sold on Louisville with a rebuilt roster. They will certainly be talented, but they will need to come together as a team.

ESPN must expect this year's Final Four teams to have a mass exodus leaving only Houston in the top five for next year. I would expect Houston to have some departures too.

I hate seeing UCONN up there.

It’s very nice to get this notoriety as Purdue seeks to complete its roster for a deep tournament run next year— IMO it could help to sway a portal player who wants to be a part of something special….

Otherwise, it’s a monument to irrelevance 😎

UConn’s got a really good Frosh class coming in and you have to imagine Hurley is gonna get some top portal guys

Need to add a couple dudes to feel really good about a NC run next year.

It is behind a paywall, but I read a Sports Illustrated headline this morning ranking Purdue at number one for next season.
Purdue has to come out next season and DOMINATE teams from the start. It must look the part and carry that momentum through the B10 and into the tournament. By the end of January, there should be NO DOUBT that Purdue will win the B10 season. Then, playing nothing but 2 and 3 strings, win the tournament. Then, get down to business and win all the way through Indianapolis.

They are rated higher without Colvin and Heide than they were with them.

Not a fair comparison. It's different years. I guarantee if Colvin and Heide were coming back with Cluff added, Purdue would be the "too early" #1.

Houston is also in on 5 star HS PF. Not sure if he's still undecided.

I think their gueard, Usan(?), was projected as bottom 1st rd, so that could be a big loss if he chooses to go.

I still like our team better as we'll be older. Frosh, even highly touted, need time to adjust to the college game. I'll take the older proven guys.

Not sure why Houston is #1 here. Most of their team will be joining AARP next year.

Three top 30ish recruits coming in. Roberts and Cryer are big losses, however, and if Milos Uzan enters the NBA draft, then that would make another difference. They will still be tough, IMO - but not top of the list, then.

Yes, and those are two big losses for Houston.

But, hey, at least we are in the discussion as a preseason top 3 team next year.

It is a different year, but strange to me that they are rated higher without them. Maybe everyone else is worse or too many unknowns still.

yep. Duke has 3 guys potentially going top 10 in the mock drafts. The Big Ten will be losing some quality talent too - Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, Queen and Richardson are all listed in top 10. The IL kid, couple guys from Michigan are listed as potential 1st rounders.
