Breaking down the decision:
1) LSU - a very talented team next year. Odds of winning big.... good. Jalyn Patterson freshman took over for JR pt guard Gray (midseason). Both return next season as does an incoming frosh.
2) Tennessee - Big minutes to sell. 3rd coach in three years. 7-11 in conference last year.
3) Illinois - Abrams and Tate return. Ennis would likely be starter...but not sure big minutes available. Fringe NCAA team next year. Groce has prior relationship with Ennis family.
4) Oregon - probable NCAA team. Incoming top 100 frosh pg....another pg option on roster. Only west coast school on list
5) GA Tech - coming off a 3-15 conference season....enough said.
6) Baylor - odds of winning are good. Medford and top 100 incoming frosh pg are competition. Ennis already transferred away from state of Texas once...being closer to family in Canada was one of reasons cited
7) Duke - Legendary program and coach. No pg's on roster right now. Coach K chasing a 5 star pg, that might reclassify from 2016 to 2015.
8) Purdue - 12-6 conference team returning every relevant player from last year except pg. Big minutes available at preferred position. 3 hour drive away from where Ennis went to high school. 4 hour drive away from his brother in NBA.
I think the three most logical finalists (in no particular order)....Illinois, Duke, Purdue. Duke will be particularly tough to beat...if they don't sign an elite freshman pg. Is coach K really going to strike out on high school pg's?
If Duke signs an elite high school pg.....then my chips are on an Illinois - Purdue recruiting battle. Groce has the prior relationship with family....and got Ennis's first visit already. Purdue is probably a little better situation for Ennis. Will both schools wait for a decision....if it takes several more weeks?
Here's hoping Coach K gets that 5 star pg to reclassify to 2015.
