FISHERS — I'm not gonna write the story tonight, but will tomorrow night maybe, but I just saw and spoke with Purdue big man target Emmanuel Dowuona. He was a great interview.
He said he plans to unofficially visit Purdue this summer. I don't know want to put too much meaning in his words, because he's new to the U.S., very new to recruiting and such, but he said things along the lines of visiting 'to see if I want to go there.' Again, might just be the way he speaks.
He did say he is intent on education first and he's deciding which engineering field he wants to study, which is always an advantage for Purdue until kids oftentimes realize how much that is to bear.
Anyway, it was interesting. We'll see if he makes that visit. Long trip. Someone's gonna have to bring him on their own dime.
Duwuona played tonight in front of Jay Wright, Bill Self and Rick Pitino, along with Matt Painter, who spent his evening at Under Armour, or at least for that one game. But that game was stacked, so they weren't there for him.
Duwuona is exactly what his coach said he is in our story this week. Long, athletic and a big-effort guy - he plays his #$% off - but is extremely limited offensively. Still, he has tremendous physical gifts at 6-11, 225 or so and his energy is uncommon for a player that size. It might not always be finely targeted, but it's energy nonetheless. His effort is a strength at this stage.
The bigs I've seen this weekend that Purdue's looking at - and it's not a full picture - it seems like there's a number of them who are limited offensively, but either really physical or really strong defensively or both, other than maybe Trevion Williams. It's gonna be interesting to see where they wind up at that position.
