They needs to keep players eligible and dismissals to a minimum. Maybe they think it'll help Ben Carter recover more quickly, too. Also, think about all the alumni that this could assist.

Whether smoking pot should or should not be legal is a separate conversation. But I have to assume there is an NCAA rule that bans it for athletes. Not sure it's performance enhancering, but might help players relax. Anyone know, on this the ban question that is?

I'm not saying smoking pot is "good" for athletes -- it impairs oxygen intake, etc., plus getting caught may cost you playing time.

But let's not pretend it has been uncommon for at least 50 years.

Yea I don't think anyone is naive to think that their own team doesn't have or hasn't had players that smoke pot. Being able to do so with less chance of repercussion might certainly look attractive to some.
