Duke moves up 6 spots in the AP, from 18 to 12, for winning 2 games in Cameron, a good win over UNC at home, and struggling to beat a bad Clemson team by 2 points. Meanwhile, Purdue remains at #16 for road win in Bloomington. Dukies also passed Purdue in the Coaches' Poll, moving up 5 spots from 19 to 14.

Does this surprise anyone?

But I guess none of this matters, since we know the selection committee will be completely unbiased.

"Extra Credit" points available due to Greensboro getting tossed out of the host sites this year.

The IU win was good for the rivalry but had no significance. They suck. That win shouldn't of moved us. Only way were going to move was if teams ahead of us lost.

This. The B1G sucks this year. Hell, Wisky was ranked at 7 and was left out of the top 4 seeds. No individual wins (home or away) are all that impressive to pollsters. Just keep winning. And, most importantly, win in the tournament.

Personally, I think we are appropriately ranked +/- 2 spots.

My take in general on polls is that we (fanbase and team) need to stop looking for validation in the polls. Let's get that from wins in March. Personally, I like being undervalued in the polls or appropriately ranked because we play like we have something to prove and honestly, if our team doesn't play with that mindset, we can easily lose.

Pollsters don't watch all the games. Duke is loaded with NBA talent and have an incredibly high ceiling. That said, they have under-achieved this year. They are starting to get on track and the pollsters want to rank them as high as possible. I don't have an issue with their ranking either.

7 of the teams ranked ahead of Purdue last week (in Week 14), lost last week. We passed 2 of them, but we're passed by 2 that were behind us last week, Duke and UF. UF passed Purdue and moved up 2 spots for beating UGA, away, and Texas A&M, at home. Is this more impressive than beating IU in Bloomington? Apparently the halo for having beat UK, the week before, is glowing ever brighter?

UK was #15 last week and moved up 2 spots for beating LSU, at home, and Alabama, on the road.

FSU was #14 last week and fell 1 spot behind us, to #17, for losing badly at ND.

WVa was #13 last week and moved up 4 spots, to #9, for beating KSU at home and Oklahoma on the road.

Regardless, hard to see how Duke moves up 6 spots for their week? Except for, they're Duke.

I can't speak for others, but I don't look at the polls for "validation" about Purdue. I look at them to get a sense of what others think of Purdue. And I care because what others think will be indirectly reflected in Purdue's seeding, although the poll itself won't be directly reflected in Purdue's seeding, obviously.

And, of course, we need to keep on winning! But the effect of that will count more for some (i.e., Duke) than for others (i.e., Purdue).

You just listed a bunch of pointless wins and then say hard to see why Duke moves up. Maybe because they handled UNC. Duke is good. They have a proven coach and AAs. They will get the benefit of the doubt over Purdue until Purdue actually does something in march.

I listed pointless wins by UF, who moved up 2 spots and passed Purdue in the polls.

I listed pointless wins by UK, who moved up 2 spots.

I listed one good win and one barely averted bad loss by Duke, who moved up 6 spots and passed Purdue in the polls.

I also listed one "pointless" win in Bloomington by Purdue, who didn't move in the polls.

But none of that matters because, as you say, and everyone knows, DUKE is GOOD! Even if they can only beat Clemson by 2 points in Cameron. That was obviously a fluke. The REAL Duke just beat UNC. The only surprising thing is that they ever slipped to #18.

Thanks for making my point.

Rankings do matter and the results of the past week are unwarranted. Purdue has gotten screwed in the polls. Polls matter because they are used as a factor in seeding selection. The numbers are unarguable: the higher your seeding, the more likely you are to advance to the FF. Your path is easier because you play lower-seeded teams and are more likely to play closer to home. These are advantages so to pretend that they do not matter is simply foolish.
