Even if Brohm leaves, we're fine. Besides, with CJB, this will be the off season norm. Every off season will be this same storyline over and over. Will he leave?, will he stay? Pins and needles. 2 years in a row he's seriously listened to pitches and has come close to packing up. However...... we are loaded at the upper leadership level. We have a top HS in the nation right in town for coaches kids to attend. Serious upgrades have happened with the program. Serious money is being paid to coaches and staff. Our leadership is all in. I'd love for CJB to stay. But, leadership has proven we are no longer tolerating mediocrity or less. Our next coach will take a small step back and then burst onto the scene. The future is bright either way. RELAX.

Totally agree.......I`m tired of shitting razer blades every time our season ends...Love CJB and family but we need a coach that really wants to be here with fewer distractions......
I would think that state of the art facilities,a Heisman caliber player, fan/community support and the realization that excellent recruits will commit to Purdue as is the case for 2019 and the keys to the castle would be enough to keep him from a coaching position that is not his dream job..
With no #4, poor attendance, MB in place and a lack luster 2019 recruiting class.....I could understand the move .

I wonder, though...

say Brohm does turn down Louisville, might that actually head off some of this speculation in the future? I mean, he would have turned down both a historic power in Tennessee and his alma mater in Louisville in the space of two years. Wouldn't that be an indication that 1) he's comfortable at Purdue and committed to building something here; and 2) his boss is more than happy to go to the mat for him.

I'm not saying that schools won't come calling, but if he can turn down Tennessee and Louisville, I would think it would have to be a pretty big name or the NFL to get him excited.

IDK, just a thought...

If he stays, his new salary and buyout will make only a very small number of schools to be able to afford him. If he keep him this round, I think we’re safe until he takes to a very high level. And then he’s free to go wherever.

Ya, that's my thought. If Brohm turns down Louisville that has to mean he sees a strong future here at Purdue. Plus, it'll send a message if Bobinski can win this one. Louisville would still be in the picture down the road (I assume) as would true blue blood programs and the NFL, but I doubt Brohm will be seriously linked to every run-of-the-mill search in the future.

UofL and Tenn aren't really run of the mill. After this incoming class, I expect even bigger programs to start calling if he stays. The intensity is likely going to grow. That's fine if it doesn't become a weeklong circus like the last 2. Maybe this will be the final nod and we'll know he's a long term guy. I'm not picking up that vibe. I'm picking up that we're a stepping stone. I hope I'm wrong.

If he leaves today for Louisville, sure. If he turns them down to stay, he's not leaving until he's accomplished what he wants to get done here. And I think we would all be very happy with that.

I tend to agree with you. Imho, the ways this is playing out says quite a bit about how much value one should place on his comments.
I would have preferred a bit different tack than he chose for comments.

Everyone might think Brohm is discounting the money involved. Its still important to he and his staff and represents the rewards owed partway thru a difficult rebuild. I believe this will come down to how much, MBOB, BOT & MITCH can structure in guaranteed money into a contract extension. The number of yrs in the extension is basically irrelevant. The guaranteed $$ is whats important. Also they should try to amend the buyout so this doesn't happen again next year after we win 9 games.

And we have to give a nice bump to his staff - far more than Louisville is willing to do. That will absolutely mean a lot to him.

Hmmm... I think I would rather put up with a week long circus every year but go to bowl games and compete every week, including big wins against OSU and other ranked teams, than to put up with Danny Hope and Darrell Hazell type years. The odds of our next coach being terrible are probably higher than the odds of him being as good as Brohm. So I will just go ahead and say that I would rather Brohm stay this year. Can't see how you could justify preferring that he leave now instead of later. Every year we have him and his top 25 recruiting classes is progress.

Sorry, Hope and Hazell types will never coach at Purdue again. Those days are ova. Can't see how you would gleen I prefer CJB leave now. Never said it. Never insinuated it. I hope he stays. As I said earlier....maybe this is his final nod and becomes committed.

Wha...??!

What on earth has Brohm said or done to indicate this job is a stepping stone?

I'm not suggesting he'll retire here, nor am I suggesting he'll turn down UofL.

He's made a variety of statements that lead one to believe he really likes it here.

IF he stays, we will go through this every year when a blue blood spot opens up. (My prediction for next year is USC). Get used to it.

Just a feeling that I have. I hope I'm wrong. I hope he does amazing things and does retire here.
