Seems like it is easier to announce a Pope than Purdue is to announce a coach. Just my observation.
Hat is off to you. You were more right than I was. My final point of this "process". If you hire a search firm that can talk to all the agents who talk directly with their coaches, you would think that this should have been over yesterday. Either $'s are an issue or said coach is waiting for a better suitor before signing. In either case, Purdue may be settling farther down the wish list that it wanted. With 6 weeks timeframe & a hired third party consultant, shame on President, AD, & BOTs, for letting this go into next week with clock ticking actively on staff and new recruits. That is bad news IMHO. Purdue is now behind in that arena as well and the other Universities of the "B1G" will use that against us in every home visit possible. Purdue squandered its opportunity. Good night everybody. I'll log back in tomorrow for another day of "we'll know more tomorrow".Ignorant to think this was going to be done quickly.
Especially if a top 3 candidate isn't ready to officially talk to teams. Would be silly to make a snap hire just to make a few fans happy
Will be interesting to see where Miles lands and who he takes as OC. If he's too ground and pound for Purdue you could certainly say the same for Baylor, Oregon, and Houston. Maybe UNC if the job opens up.We have plenty of options, even if we aren't our #1 guys #1 choice.
Even Spack, as an absolute panic hire would eventually put us in a better place.
We won't fall that far though.
Also, FYI...Miles at this point is out. Said he thinks he can do better. We'd only get him at this point if 10 days from now he has no job and we have nobody on the hook.
We don't want Miles though. He's a hard headed SOB and any talk about change is lip service. He had a $5mil job at LSU, was told to change and didn't. If he didn't do it then, why would he now for less money at a program that's not as good?
He's damaged goods at this point.

So you're so butt hurt about the timing of the hiring you are going to wear a Wisconsin hoodie?Hat is off to you. You were more right than I was. My final point of this "process". My Christmas list might include hoodie sweatshirt a "W" for Badgers...I've never gone down that path, but my UW Alumni Brother-in-Law would be more than happy to buy that for me.
Miles, Sumlin or Fleck any others would start the downgrade process for those ready to turn this "Train" around.
Yeah I don't get the panic mode at all. Did MBob ever say we were hiring this weekend? So you're so butt hurt about the timing of the hiring you are going to wear a Wisconsin hoodie?
Christ our fan base is dumb

No, been waiting since Tiller era to see something worth a darn and it isn't happening. Waited another 6 weeks to visually see that Administration still has a thumb up their butt slow poking it and I'm very tired of it.So you're so butt hurt about the timing of the hiring you are going to wear a Wisconsin hoodie?

Purdue is a better job than Houston?
1. B10 is better than the American
2. Houston is in much better recruiting territory
3. Houston is a FB 1st school
4. Houston pays more
5. No idea on overall facilities
6. Houston has higher expectations....right now
7. Houston is a much easier city to recruit to than West Lafayette is
On the surface, Houston is the better job right now
I've been on the American Conference coaching band wagon as soon as Hazell was fired. Navy,Tulsa,Memphis,Temple,USF all have a coach that i think would be a huge upgrade and might even a better option than Fleck anyway. But look at the teams in the AAC: Navy, Tulsa, Memphis, Houston, SMU, Tulane, Temple, USF, UCF, Cinci, East Carolina, and Connecticut. Granted, most of those teams could beat Purdue today. But a up-and-coming coach would certainly want to coach against Big 10 opponents in a Power 5 conference as opposed to that AAC list.
Except given that it was a likely happening before the season even started and prompted the timing of the hiring of the AD, never mind that the official search could/should have started six weeks ago, being prepared to make an announcement yesterday would not be considered having done it quickly, never mind any sort of snap decision...and whatever is ultimately done, there are only a few fans left of the program at this point that will be happy or unhappy, as Purdue has alienated or turned off the vast majority of those that it had.Ignorant to think this was going to be done quickly.

Call me dumb, but I'm ready to root for a winner. I'm not seeing that at my Alumni institution. On Wisconsin in a hurry if they blow this hire!

Not having made an announcement on the other hand only looks as if Purdue had not done its due diligence, is unprepared, and remains more or less a joke of a program...especially at the major level and relative to its counterparts.
Miles may be damaged goods in your mind at this point, but the Purdue football program is beyond a damaged good...the mere fact that his name was ever associated with it is more likely pure fiction than any sort of reality...and Spack as any hire, panic or not, would be a lousy hire in every way.We have plenty of options, even if we aren't our #1 guys #1 choice.

To think that Purdue is in a position to "not want" Miles is not just laughable (and hysterically so at that), it is audacious to say the least. Les Miles would bring more credibility and knowledge, never mind attention, to Purdue football the moment he walked in the door than anybody has in at least a decade...and he could walk right back out a moment later and that would remain the case.
First, for Purdue to have any chance at all to ever be remotely relevant again in the conference, never mind register nationally in any regard, they have to land someone that can recruit...as the roster in place is hands down the worst in the conference and not even good MAC material. Thus, the very fact that you point out that he would recruit incredibly better is more support for him than anything else.Miles is a net nothing for us.
We would recruit incredibly better. Great. We would have really good defenses. Awesome. We would then struggle to score, leading us to squander all the talent we have. But hey, we'd maybe win 5-6 games and go to a bowl 2-3 years from now while paying this clown more money than the last 3 coaches made in a year combined.
Sounds totally worth it!
The talk about his offensive renaissance is bullshit. He said the same things after LSU threatened to Can him last season and he didn't change a thing. Why would he change here?
