Does a win this weekend at Wisconsin change any of your perceptions?

In all reality, does a win at Wisconsin change the perception you have of Hazell and his staff or would it require something more? Wisconsin is sitting at 4-2 and flying a little under the radar as they are below where they have been, but their only losses have come to Alabama and undefeated Iowa. The rest of Wisconsin's schedule is light to say the least with Purdue, Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, and Minnesota. Other than NU, the rest of their games are against the bottom 5 teams in the conference.

Unless Purdue comes out and wins wire to wire in a fashion we saw Minnesota do to Purdue last week, I'm not going to be impressed or have my mind changed. I'll be extremely happy with a win but I'm not changing my mind at this point. I don't see enough improvement as a whole to make a perception change...unless Hazell can get to bowl eligible this season.

Stop asking stupid questions!

I think Hazell should get a chance to coach out the year. Firing him mid season isn't going to accomplish much or even get us to a bowl.

What SHOULD happen is for him to fire Shoop and do some reassigning of duties. I think its the only thing that helps him keep his job. That said, I think he gets the chance to win at least 4 and save his job.

If he doesn't get to 4, especially with our schedule not being that tough AND the fact we've blown some very winnable games its time for him to hit the road.

no way Purdue wins this Saturday, in fact they won't win any more games this year, and even if a miracle happened and the team wins, one game doesn't mean much, the team would have to play well the rest of the season to convince me, by winning at least 3 games including Wisconsin

If there is a cultural issue, can him now. If you are firing because of results, wait.

I don't know why but my response to the possibility of us winning vs Wisconsin reminds me of Jim Mora's quote, when he was the Colt's coach in response to a question from a reporter:

What’s that? Ah — Playoffs? Don’t talk about — playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game! Another game.

too big of a hole to dig out of, I've seen enough.

I'm probably with PaBoiler78 on this one. Winning one game (even at Wisconsin) would be a welcome reprieve, but it wouldn't change much about my overall thinking.

Found this while surfing J&C today:

“What can you do better and give yourself a chance in the fourth quarter to win those games,” he said. “If you do things right and you don’t self-inflict, you’re going to have a chance to win. They truly believe that and I believe that.”

That quote is from Darrell Hazell. I have heard him say this before but it didn't really resonate with me until now. Hazell is preaching to 'just get to the 4th quarter' and then we'll see from there. As a teacher, it's like telling my students to just study enough to get a D. What usually ends up happening for that? A student will bomb the test and fail. Is it any surprise that Hazell's teams frequently play like dog-poo in the second half of games or play so terrible in the first half and the other team doesn't take advantage and then suddenly wake up in the second half?

He is preaching to play just good enough to make it to the 4th quarter and after seeing his awful excuse for a pre-game speech, its no wonder why the team frequently looks flat and uninterested. Why not coach up a team to step on the throat of a team from the start if they are hurting coming in (missing 11 first and second team players) or go out and prove the doubters around the program wrong by coming out and beating someone you should beat in a dominating fashion. Just pathetic motivation tactics.

It would change my perception of Wisconsin!

I think we may have had our one flash in the pan against MSU...and we lost. MSU might be good enough to beat Wisconsin but can't see us making even a reasonable game out of it.

No way in hell we beat WISKY! They will run for over 350 yds and pass for another 200........................................rolling up a 45-10 win! Like I said before........we are the cure that ails all other teams!

My perception would change, however. I would perceive Purdue to be better than Kansas.

Did Hope's wins over Michigan in Ann Arbor, two wins over OSU and two bowl appearances change your opinion of his coaching ability? Probably not, why would one win at Wisconsin change your mind about Hazell and this staff?

I disagree with that interpretation. To me, he's reminding the team that you can't win/lose a game in the first quarter. He's saying play smart and accept small victories along the way and put yourself in a position to be able to win in the 4th. I totally agree with that. It obviously hasn't played out like that in a few of the games, but I definitely don't liken that quote to that of a teacher encouraging kids to study just hard enough to get a D. Not anywhere close, actually.

Short answer: no

Long answer: hell no
I agree. You convinced me. Your well thought out expressive reasoning, especially in your long answer, was all I needed in my own assessment of the outcome.

The ONLY thing that Purdue has a chance of winning in Madison at the football game is the coin toss and I'm not sure that is even at 50/50.

I'm glad I could help guide you on the right path. My long answer took quite the effort to develop. The brain cells killed from the amount of beer has to be of epic levels.

I'm with you there. I can't understand why I have drank so much during this Purdue football season????

Do we get a refund on/from Wisky tickets if we cover the spread?

Interesting. I always thought this guy had no killer (WINNER) instinct and that speech is the proof.

Win - allow the coaches to ride back with the team before firing them.
Lose - fire them immediately and they can find their own way home from Wisky

I am done with this staff. No real progress has been made. The players are playing their asses off, and honestly we have the talent to be a 6-6 team. We have constantly misusing our players. Playing soft coverage after preaching about how good Brown, and Williams are with press coverage. Not using Markell Jones last Saturday. Trying to make Appleby into a option QB, while making Henry a pocket passer. I am just done, I don't feel like we are losing games because of our talent. We are losing games because of coaching, and one win could not come anywhere near changing my opinion.

Why is everyone busting on Hazell's pre-game speech? I know I was inspired. We just had too many on the bridge and it collapsed. Now we got to build the damn bridge all over again. Now that bridge is gone Boilers get ground into the dirt by Wiscy.

NO! A TURD STILL SMELLS DOESN"T IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Does a win this weekend at Wisconsin change any of your perceptions?"

1) God hates Wisconsin...
2) God likes to toy with Purdue fans psyche...
3) Morgan sold his soul to the devil...
4) Wisconsin should immediately drop their FB program...
5) Morgan should extend DH's contract another 18yrs...
6) The students and fans at Purdue should celebrate like they won the national championship, including the obligatory destruction and mayhem the ensues...

Are we still looking for the key to the gate? I thought we had it!
