My assumption is yes though I have no Science to back that up. So does a program that has significant performance issues lose a few of their high-star recruits to a program that seems to be trending in the right direction?

I know it's hard to get in the mind of an 18 year old, but does a young man committed to an IU or Rutgers look around and sign with a different Program?

Not that Purdue wants a kid who didn't first want them, but if there was an in-state/near-state high-value kid, I'd be on the phone using that leverage.

I don't have any science either but I doubt there's much uniform science behind the thoughts of an 18-year old athlete. Performance has to be a factor, but to each kid it has to vary. Early playing time could be on an opposite sliding scale compared to good performance.

I would guess if a higher profile school came calling the recruit probably would not honor his commitment. Especially if it’s their dream school or girlfriend attends etc.

I would say yes…just because other staffs will convince the recruit that the coach is now on the hot seat and “‘may not be there in two years”

With the transfer portal that may not be as an effective tactic as in the past, but it worked on Randall Gregory when he flipped to Nebraska because he was convince Hope was on his way out

I think "yes" but I'm guessing most recruits look at their position as much as team success.
If you are coming in as a RB and there is only 2 guys ahead of you, they are probably looking at the chance of getting playing time right away.

I'm guessing the bad programs put a pretty interesting twist on their sales pitch. --If you come here, you will help us turn the corner on our program. You will be "THE guy" and be the face of the program. You will start immediately and get the stats to be recognized as a top player in the conference.

As much as the "team" concept is preached, most guys are going in looking out for #1.

Well just keep tabs on IUs recruiting class for football.... They might be your case study. Tho the coach's son being highly ranked is going to skew that.

What kind of pitch do you use to keep guys when they were recruited to a top 10 program that subsequently struggles to get to a 2-10 record.

Could also be that a recruit thinks a struggling but promising program will generate more opportunity vs a proven winner like Bama?

Gregory was a guy who committed to Purdue and then after watching them have a bad year went to Nebraska. Purdue had several elite players that had us in their final 2-3, But after a bad year signed elsewhere. There was a 4 star WR that was committed to Purdue but then decided to go to OSU summer camp just for fun. They made him an offer and he committed to OSU as part of their camp.
